Wallhogs - Life-Sized Photos on Your Wall

You ever hear of “Wallhogs?” Me either. At least, not until a couple of days ago. After they contacted me to do a sponsored review of their products, I’ve been poking around their website a bit, and I must admit, it’s a pretty unique concept - not for everyone, mind you - but kinda cool.

First off, let’s cover what a wallhog is. Basically, it a large (and by large, I mean up to 7 feet tall!!!) image that is printed on 4 mil matte wall reusable vinyl, 18 mil premium glossy photobase paper or 20 mil semi-gloss fine art canvas (for the smaller ones).

“Ok, so it’s a really big photo. So what?”

Well, it’s a little more than that. Because they print on the wall vinyl material, you can actually stick it on your wall. Imagine you took this awesome photograph of your favorite hockey player (ok, so the Stanley Cup ended yesterday… I’m going through withdrawl)… it’s all fine and dandy if you blow it up to be 3 feet by 2 feet and hang it in your hockey room. But wouldn’t it be a lot more impressive if it was life-sized, standing at eye level, stuck to your wall? That’s what makes it unique. Picture your studio with your best photographs actually part of the wall - 7 feet high!

“Yeah, ok. I see how it’s cool. But I don’t think my [wife/husband/mom/dad/partner] would let me do something like that. They barely tolerate my addiction to photography as it is.”

I hear ya. Unless it was a photograph of my wife and I from our wedding (and even that would be pushing it), I don’t think she’d go for it either, except in my office or something. And if that’s all there was to it, well, I probably wouldn’t have bothered to mention it. [Insert cheesy gameshow host voice] But… there’s more!!

Now here’s the part you will probably be more interested in - they have a program for photographers where you can partner with them, and sell your customers wallhogs, and you get a cut of the $$. They provide you with marketing materials, and you can even get a custom-made sample to show your clients. If you do sports or children’s photography, you could supplement your income quite nicely by tacking on a wallhog to an order. As a Wallhogs Photographer Partner, you receive a 20% discount off their prices (which run from $19.99 to $79.99 for the 7 foot vinyl print), and you can mark them up to whatever you want and pocket the rest as commission. They also drop-ship without the receipt if you want (that means they’ll ship it directly to your customer, so you don’t have to be the middle-person), and the customer won’t know how much you got it for.

If you give it a try, let me know how it goes. I’m thinking I might get one done of the PhotographyCorner.com logo. How cool would that look up in my office. Maybe if Wallhogs likes my review enough, they’ll give me a free one - I’ve got a big, open wall in my office just asking to be covered with a wallhog (shhh… don’t tell my wife).
