Here are some thoughts from kaipu on the photograph:
I took this picture recently while we stopped for an overnight stay in Sarchu on our way to Ladakh. Little Tenzing (the boy in the picture) lives with his Mother and fatehr in their tent. Here they provide travelers with some basic needs, like Bedding for a Night or Two, Tea and Breakfast, Diesel… etc. They come to this place called Sarchu (altitude 4,290m), every summer to carry out this summer business of theirs. The journey along the Manali-Leh highway at high altitude and variable road conditions, normally takes two days, so travellers and tourists use this spot as an overnight stop. At the altitude of 4,290m the life is extremely hard, as you can clearly see by the face of this 2 years old boy. In summers the sun is very harsh there which leaves the local people with a lot of sunburns, and the winter is extremely cold (down to -35 C) so the peole have to move down in the valleys. The hands you see in the picture and not boys dad as one can imagine it’s his moms. This is life there.

Taken with Canon 5D and Canon 17-40mm f4
Shutter speed - 1/60 @ f5.6
ISO - 200
