Are you looking for a fun, photography outing? Have you wondered what it might be like to meet some fellow members of PhotographyCorner? Then circle Saturday, October 18th on your calendar for the first PhotographyCorner Photo Walk! The concept is simple and sure to be a lot of fun.

So what exactly is a Photo Walk?

Quite simply it’s getting together with some other photographers for a group photo shoot. The structure is very informal, however. A meeting place and time is set up, and photographers get together for a couple of hours and walk around taking shots of whatever catches the eye. In other words, you take the opportunity to get together and share some time with other people who share your love of photography.

So how exactly would this work?

If you look in the Conversation Corner section of the PhotographyCorner Forums, you will see a new forum called Corner Photo Walks. If you are interested in getting a group together in your area, simply start a thread in the next couple of days/weeks and call it “Photo Walk Kalamazoo” or “Photo Walk Timbuktu” or wherever you are.

As the person starting the thread, we would ask that you be willing to ‘lead’ in that you will pick a meeting place and put that info in your thread. Times can be determined by the group once it has been established. We recommend that you set the time so you have a good 2 to 4 hours together for the Photo Walk.

On Saturday, October 18th, your group will meet at the time agreed upon by the group, and then proceed to explore the area around your meeting place, taking photographs of whatever catches your eye. Hopefully you will also get a chance to get to know each other and form some new friendships as well.

Shortly after the Photo Walk has taken place (i.e. the next day or so), the ‘leader’ that started the thread for specific area would start another thread in the Corner Photo Walk Forum and title it “Photo Walk Kalamazoo Photos” (substituting your location for ‘Kalamazoo’ of course). Then, each participant of the Photo Walk group select and post their 3 favorite photographs that were taken during the Photo Walk.

Simple, eh?

It’s a chance to get out and meet other photographers, take some photographs together, then share some of what you’ve photographed. With the added bonus that you’re doing this on a day where other members of PhotographyCorner around the world are doing the same thing. We think that’s kind of cool!

So, You Want to Be a Leader?

You have just three, minimal responsibilities:

• Pick a meeting place in your area
• Start a thread in the new Corner Photo Walk Forum to invite members in your area
• After the Photo Walk, start a photograph-posting thread in the Corner Photo Walk Forum for your group

Now, that’s not too daunting, is it?

Finally, what if you happen to be in an area that doesn’t have any other members close by? You can still participate by going on your own Photo Walk on October 18th. We’ll have a thread for individual photographers to post your three favorite photographs as well. And, of course, you could always invite a friends or two to come along and give them a reason to join you at the Corner as well.
