Corner Community Chat Recap - October 6th, 2008 - Questions & Answers
A week ago, we held a Corner Community Chat with the open-ended topic of “Questions & Answers.” All-in-all, 40-50 people showed up over the 2-hour chat, and we had a great discussion. Sure, some of the chit chat was purely socializing, but is that what it’s really all about? We get a chance a couple times of month to just chat with other photographers. We did touch on some great questions, though, which are outlined below (but if you want the full scoop on what goes on in each chat, you’ll have to show up - I can’t give away everything in the recap, right?). ![]()
- We talked about the problem the Corner was having with spammers lately - issue seems to have been resolved now that we’ve added a new registration process.
- We spent some time discussing which lenses are better for specific subjects and types of photography.
- We talked about the various options for burning photographs to CDs for clients. Programs like Nero, Lightbox & Windows were given as examples.
- We chatted about slideshow programs and it was suggested that a few good ones were Premiere Elements, PhotoShow, SmugMug, PaintShop Pro and Album Creator.
- We joked around about how many shoot film and the hands down consensus was digital is the way to go, especially for the convenience factor.
- We discussed some various sensor cleaning options, and came up with several recommendations: Copper Hill Images, CleaningDigitalCameras, NatureScapes and Amazon.
- We briefly chatted about stiffening/thickening a soft backdrop and a few ideas were to weigh down the fabric, starch it with Shape and Drape or use Velcro to attach another fabric to the soft to make it thicker.
- We talked about printing at home versus outsourcing. Some suggestions for printing at home were the Kodak 5300 and R2880 Epson, and for outsourcing: Mpix, Ritz, Kodak, WalMart, SmugMug, Walgreens, FurtureShop and London Drugs.
- We closed the chat by discussing the up-coming Corner Photo Walk, and how we can get more participation.
Now, if you missed the chat, aren’t you feeling a little left out? Check out the upcoming chat schedule to see when the next chat is. Thanks to everyone that showed up - it was a great time!
