Video Corner #61: How to Photograph Landscapes

Almost all photographers enjoy landscape photography, but often struggle to get their photographs to look fantastic. Today’s ‘Photography Thursday’ Video Corner offers up some great tips that should help you improve your landscape photographs.

Landscape Photography Tips

  • Choose a wide angle lens
  • Get to your location before dawn
  • Use an aperture around f/16 - f/22
  • Take a meter reading from the foreground and set it manually on the camera
  • With a graduated neutral density filter in place, land and sky exposure should come into balance
  • Check for blown highlights on the histogram
  • Use a hot shoe bubble (a landscape photography essential)
  • Set mirror lock up and self timer or use a cable release to minimise camera movement
  • Use your hand to shield the front of the lens/filter if flare is a problem
