Over the past couple of months, we’ve moved all of the photographs from all of our past contests from the Corner Photo Galleries to the new Corner Contest Galleries (hosted by our friends at SmugMug.com). For those of you that only read the Corner Blog, but don’t actively participate in the forums much (what’s up with that - register already!), you may not know what an “ohenry” is (or you may be wondering why we’re having a celebration for a chocolate bar). Those of you that are active in the PhotographyCorner forums know that ohenry is one of the most helpful, popular, contributing members of the Corner. For the past three+ years, ohenry (also known by his real name, Carl) has been faithfully running the Premiere Projects for Premiere Members. While there are numerous benefits to Premiere Membership, the Premiere Projects are always noted as the “big draw,” and now, after several years, Carl is passing the torch. Read more »

While I’m still technically on vacation, I’m now back from my week of internet exhile (I was on Mayne Island off the coast of British Columbia, Canada - no internet access). I promised my wife (and myself) that I wouldn’t work too much while on vacation, so I’m trying to get the essentials done, and I’ll start on the catch-up process when I get back to the office at the beginning of August. This, however, couldn’t wait. I always hand out the bling in the middle of the month before the Corner Newsletter goes out. It’s the middle of the month, and I’m preparing to send out the Corner Newsletter which means it’s time to hand out awards around the Corner. We have 5 awards to had out this month, including a Platinum Commitment Award to ohenry (only the fifth Platinum Award handed out to date). Now, these commitment awards are awarded to those who reach certain post milestones (10,000 posts for a platinum award, 5,000 posts for a gold award, 2,000 posts for a silver award, and 1,000 posts for a bronze award), but this one for Carl (aka ohenry) is much more than the 10,000+ posts he’s added to the Corner over the past 4+ years (yes, Carl has been around the Corner for over 4 years), but it’s a HUGE thank-you on my part for all the stuff Carl does around the Corner. Not only are all of his posts valuable to anyone that reads them (in fact, he wrote the article on how to critique a photograph), but Carl also pretty much runs the Premiere Corner and the Premiere Projects (and all he gets is, well, nothing). While I run and manage the Corner more or less by myself, without the help of a select few people like Carl, PhotographyCorner would not be the site that it is. It seems like more and more people are hitting posting milestones these days. We have NINE awards to pass out now: one 5k Commitment award, one 2k Commitment award, and seven 1k commitment awards! Wow! Keep up the great work, everyone! After hitting 10,000 Members last week, I'm sure we'll be seeing more of these awards handed out every month. ;)
