Contest Corner Challenges are Back with CCC#95: In the Wild

After taking a couple of months off for the 2011 Photograph of the Year contest, it’s finally time to bring back the Contest Corner Challenges - themed contests than run here at the Corner every 3-4 weeks. A theme is announced, and the community (anyone can enter!) has several weeks to go out and take a photograph that meets the theme (the photo must be taken during the contest period - no looking through your archives for an entry - that defeats the purpose!). Once all the entries have been collected, the community takes a week to vote on which one they think is best. Winner gets a prize - it’s as simple as that.

We’ve already done 94 of these contests (browse through the winning photographs here and all the entries for past contests here in the Contest Corner Photo Galleries). Contest Corner Challenge #95: In the Wild challenges you to photograph any animal in the wild. No bugs. No “pets” (or other domesticated animals like cattle and horses). Birds are fine, and so are reptiles (as long as it’s not a pet). Animals in zoos are ok, too. If it’s an animal, and it doesn’t live in a home or on a farm, and you don’t need a macro lens to photograph it, you’ve got yourself a subject to photograph for this contest. In the final Contest Corner Challenge of 2011, it’s exciting to see a new winner (hat tip to Spicoli and nrshapiro for generally cleaning up in the CCCs) pick up a win. VTerlakyPhoto, with his photo ‘Birthday of Solitude’ managed to grab over a quarter of the votes earning him his first Contest Corner Challenge victory.

The Last Contest Corner Challenge of 2011

After a great year of Contest Corner Challenges, after this contest we’ll be taking a break until the Photograph of the Year contest is over (more on that soon!). You’ve got over 2 weeks to get an entry in for this one, so I’m expecting a bunch of entries! The theme of “celebration” is wide open. Photograph a celebration (people dancing, a wedding, holiday parties, etc), someone celebrating (someone with a party hat on, opening presents, blowing out candles), or objects that would indicate a celebration is going on (presents, graduation cap, alcohol bottles, etc). Basically, if your photograph has anything to do with celebrating or a celebration, you have yourself an entry.

Entries are due in by December 20th, and voting will begin on the 21st. Make sure to read through all the contest details here on the contest page (and be sure to read through the submission guidelines so I don’t have to reject so many entries this time!). I’m looking forward to seeing lots of celebratory photographs!

The Scream by Neil Shapiro Wins CCC#93: Reproduction

At risk of sounding like a broken record, nrshapiro has picked up yet another Contest Corner Challenge win (his 8th). With almost half of the votes (mind you, there were only 7 entries), it was a convincing win by the CCC veteran. It doesn’t happen very often, but every now and again voting for the Contest Corner Challenge and Photograph of the Month contests line right up. Double the voting, double the fun (double the work-load - ha!). Earlier today, voting for Contest Corner Challenge #93: Reproduction kicked off. Then, a couple of hours later, voting for the December 2011 Photograph of the Month got under way.

Usually the Contest Corner Challenges here at the Corner are about going out and taking a unique photograph. This contest, however, we want you to go reproduce a famous scene in a photograph (The Last Supper, The Scream, The Cover of ET, etc). This time, it’s ok to copy someone’s work!

It’s been a while (you’ll have to go back to Contest Corner Challenge #73 to find the last time), but Spicoli finally picked up his twelfth CCC win with his fantastically creative entry “Ventos Tempus.” You can browse through the CCC#92 Photo Gallery to see who took each photograph, and the final voting results (Carl’s entry got over 22% of the votes) in the voting thread in the forums (we keep the voting private until a winner has been announced, of course).

It's "Time" to Enter Contest Corner Challenge #92

It’s not “time” yet, though I’m expecting that text or call any week now (my wife and I are expecting our first child in the next couple of weeks - yikes!). Your task for this Contest Corner Challenge is to photograph time. It could be as simple as photographing a clock, or maybe a time-lapse showing the passage of time - but you’re welcome to be more creative and photograph “outside the box.” Your photograph just has to have something to do with time. Entries are due in by Tuesday, October 25th, so you don’t have a lot of time to photograph time.

Let's Vote on the Best Color and the Shape

Due to some technical problems around the Corner over the past couple of days, voting for Contest Corner Challenge #91: The Color and the Shape started a little later than normal, though we will still have a full 7-days to cast our votes (we’ll just announce the winner a little later, and CCC#92 a day or two late). The entries for this contest came in slowly at first, but we got a decent amount in the last couple of days of the entry period. Check out all 27 entries in the CCC#91 Photo Gallery, and make sure to cast your vote in the voting thread by 3:15pm EST (7:15pm GMT) on Saturday, October 8th, 2011.

Contest Corner Challenge #91 Announced

We just announced the winner of Contest Corner Challenge #90: Show Me the Money!, so that means it’s time to get another Contest Corner Challenge underway. The entries for CCC#91: The Color and the Shape (yes the title was borrowed from the Foo Fighers) should predominantly feature a single-colored geometric shape. I know that sounds a little boring, but you’ll be surprised how challenging this one may turn out to be. Some ideas to get you started: children’s block toys, boxes, inside of a cup, sail of a boat, a wall, table top, etc.

Entries are due in by Wednesday, September 28th, and the voting will begin on September 29th. If you have any questions about the contest, head on over to the contest thread in the forums and ask away. Oh, and make sure to read through the Contest Corner Rules & Regulations so that your photograph doesn’t get rejected. Now get out there and photograph me some colorful shapes!
