Corner Community Chats

Reminder: Corner Community Chat - November 26th

When we originally released the Corner Community Chat schedule for 2008, we had yet to figure out anything regarding the November 26th chat. We don’t have a topic, nor do we have a host for this chat, so it’s a free-for-all. Show up and chat about whatever you want to. Meet up in the Corner Chat Room tonight at 7pm ET (midnight GMT), and hang out as long as you’d like - but remember to clean up after yourselves!

Oh, and I won’t be sending out a reminder PM before the chat starts, so it’s up to you to remember to be there. See you in the chat room!

Reminder: Corner Community Chat - November 5th - Travel Time

When we originally released the Corner Community Chat schedule for 2008, we had yet to figure out the topic of our November 5th chat. newlove, the wonderful mod here at the Corner that has been organizing all these chats, came up with another fantastic theme: Travel Time (no, not Time Travel!) where we can discuss places we’ve lived or visited, and where the best “photography spots” are located in those places. Bring a pen and paper and get ready to take notes so you can plan your next photographic vacation. Meet us in the Corner Chat Room this Wednesday night at 7pm ET (midnight GMT), and we’ll be going until around 9pm ET (2am GMT) and bring some of your best photographic locations along with you!

Reminder: Corner Community Chat on October 29th - Story Time

When we originally released the Corner Community Chat schedule for 2008, we hadn’t figured out the topic of our October 29th chat. newlove, the wonderful mod here at the Corner that has been organizing all these chats, came up with a fantastic theme: Story Time. It’s just what the name suggests, we will be sharing our best and worse experiences while out in the field. So put your brain on rewind and bring your stories to the Corner Chat Room Wednesday night at 7pm ET (11pm GMT), and we’ll be going until around 9pm ET (1am GMT). It should be a fun, amusing, educational and enlightening night (and for those of you that need it, I’ll be sending out a PM reminder about an hour before the chat starts)!

Corner Community Chat Recap - October 6th, 2008 - Questions & Answers

A week ago, we held a Corner Community Chat with the open-ended topic of “Questions & Answers.” All-in-all, 40-50 people showed up over the 2-hour chat, and we had a great discussion. Sure, some of the chit chat was purely socializing, but is that what it’s really all about? We get a chance a couple times of month to just chat with other photographers. We did touch on some great questions, though, which are outlined below (but if you want the full scoop on what goes on in each chat, you’ll have to show up - I can’t give away everything in the recap, right?).

Reminder: Corner Community Chat Tonight - Questions & Answers

When we originally released the Corner Community Chat schedule for 2008, we had the chat tonight listed as an “Ask a Pro” chat. Unfortunately, we had a couple of pros lined up that are now unable to attend (at least, they’re unable to commit to being there). So instead, we’re going to hold a general photography “Questions & Answers” chat. It will basically be an opportunity to chat with other photographers, ask questions, answers questions, and participate in general photography shop talk. We’re meeting in the Corner Chat Room tonight at 7pm ET (11pm GMT), and going until around 9pm ET (1am GMT).

So bring your photography-related questions and answers, and we’ll see you tonight (and for those of you that need it, I’ll be sending out a PM reminder about an hour before the chat starts)!

Corner Community Chat Recap - September 24th, 2008 - Business Basics

For those that missed it, on Wednesday, September 24th we had a Corner Community Chat. The topic? Photography Business Basics. We had 40+ people show up throughout the 2-hour-long chat which featured a lot of random chat and banter, but we also worked through some great questions and answers about the business of photography. There were well over 1,500 messages over the course of the chat (that's about a new post every 5 seconds!), and a fair portion of the chat was not necessarily on topic (though I must say, it's a lot of fun just chating with a bunch of other people who love photography about photography), so I'm not going to post the entire chat. Instead, I've printed out the transcript (29 pages, 12pt font, single-spaced), and gone through and created a summary for you. Now you won't feel so left out if you missed the chat. Oh, and don't forget to continue the discussion in the comments - especially if you have further "questions" or "answers" you'd like to add.

Reminder: Corner Community Chat Tonight

Another quick post to remind you that we’re hosting another Corner Community Chat tonight in the Corner Chat Room. Doing some professional photography, or thinking about getting into the “biz”? Tonight we’re going to talk about the business-side of photography. The chat starts at 7pm ET (11pm GMT) and we’ll wrap up around 9pm ET (1am GMT). Looking forward to seeing lots of you there (oh, and if you don’t know how to get into the Corner Chat Room, you can do so by clicking here). I’ll also send a reminder private message the 13,000+ of you that have already registered for a PhotographyCorner account about 30 minutes before we get started.

Corner Community Chat Recap – September 10th, 2008 – Welcome to the Corner

A couple of days after each Corner Community Chat, I’m going to post a recap here on the blog for those of you that were unable to attend. Our chat on September 10th, 2008 was more of just a meet and greet chat, though, so there’s not really much to recap (unless you count such important topics like: alcoholic drink recipes, baseball, the SmugMug Scavenger Hunt #1, where we live, Ramadan, Halloween, vacations, pets, coffee, and a bunch of other random stuff). We did hit on a couple of “photography-related” topics, however; but nothing you couldn’t already find in the forums.

Fall 2008 Corner Community Chat Schedule

As promised a couple of days ago, we’ve put together a Corner Community Chat schedule for the rest of 2008 (we may add more, depending on how much you all like them). I’ve already uploaded the times and topics (the ones we’ve picked so far, at least) to the Corner Calendar and I’ll send a Reminder PM before each one starts (yes, we’ve got the “mass PM” plugin installed, so no more “reminder emails,” only reminder PMs!). If you want to mark them in your calendar, here’s what we’ve got so far:

August 20th Corner Community Chat Recap

I know this post is a little late, considering the chat was over 2 weeks ago, but better late than never, right? For those of you that were in the 2 chats we held a couple of weeks ago, this will be a bit of a review, but for those of you that couldn’t make it (we held one at 2pm and one at 7pm EST), here’s what we talked about:

August 11th Chat Recap - What Would YOU Like to See Around the Corner

Earlier in the week, we held a “featured chat” (side note: we gotta come up with a better name for our “official chats” than that) where we discussed what YOU would like to see around the Corner. I announced it last minute (though our amazing mods had planned it well in advance), but it was great to see 20-25 of you show up. This post (while long) will serve as a recap of what we discussed in the chat, in addition to discussing some of the potential changes we may implement based on your ideas. Also, be sure to leave your feedback in the comments! We would love to hear as many opinions as possible, even if you are unable to make it to the chats.

Featured Chat - What Would YOU Like to See Around the Corner

Just a quick post to let you know that we’re doing a feature chat in the Corner Chatroom starting in about half an hour (that’s 5pm EST - 9pm GMT). Just a casual conversation about what you want to see around the Corner. We’ve been doing a bunch of changes around the site, but we want your opinion on what you want to see next. Remember, you have to log in to the forums to be able to log into the chat. Check out this thread for details. In addition, keep your eye on the Corner Blog to find out what we chatted about in case you missed it (but you’re not going to want to miss it!!!).

Inaugural PhotographyCorner Chat

PhotographyCorner ChatFor those of you that hang around the photography forums a lot, you’ve probably seen the links to the Corner Chat Room conspicuously hidden throughout the site. A while back, the community wanted a chat room, and thus, the Corner Chat Room was born. But alas, it was rarely used. Recently, some of the new mods and active members of the site have decided it’s time to resurrect the Corner Chat Room again to see what type of interest there would be.
