ColorRight Review - Get White Balance Right In-Camera

Of all of the prizes from the 2008 Photograph of the Year contest, I’ve received the most positive feedback on the ColorRight prizes. If you’re the type of photographer that shoots in raw and fixes white balance in post production, picking up a ColorRight of your own may be a good idea. With light changing all the time, it’s hard to get the right color balance in camera, and with evolution of digital photography, we can tweak the temperature of our photographs more than even before.

But why spend all that time playing around in post processing when you can get it right “in-camera”? ColorRight is a lens filter-like tool that can help you do just that. Basically, you place it over the end of your dSLR and take a sample photo. This gives your camera an accurate reading of the temperature of the light. Once your camera knows what the lighting conditions are, you’ll have an accurate white balance for the rest of your photographs (or at least until the lighting changes, when all you have to do is switch to manual focus, change your camera settings to “custom white balance,” and take another sample photo).

Corner Resource Center Catch-Up #3

As I slow make progress catching up adding articles, tutorials and product reviews to the Corner Resource Center, I’ll keep you posted on the blog. I decided, before I write the May Newsletter, I’d do 3 more resources (so the newsletter might not go out until late tonight, or some time tomorrow). We have an article, a tutorial and a product review to keep you busy for a while.

Corner Compilation #3

It’s been a long time coming, but I’m finally to the point where I can start catching up on photography industry news. Some of this news dates back over 2 months, but better late than never, eh? I’ll try not to cram too much into each Corner Compilation post, so expect about 10-12 “bits of news” in each compilation. Hopefully I’ll be all caught up in a matter of weeks (cross your fingers). Enjoy the news (mostly Delkin and Lowepro this time around, but trust me, there’s a lot more coming)!

Corner Compilation #1

There is a lot of news in the world of photography. When I started this blog, I subscribed to as many newsletters, rss feeds, press release sources, industry news, blogs, etc. as I could, so that, if it was happening in the photography industry, I would know about it and could, therefore, pass along all the good stuff to you. A month and a half later, I have 2,698 items sitting in my rss feed reader, which makes me about 2+ weeks behind on the news. Now, if I wanted to catch up, you’d end up having 25 posts a day for the next 3 days (assuming I spent all day posting on the blog, of course), and no one wants that - You don’t want to have to read 75 posts in three days any more than I want to write that many.

Press Release: Lexar Introduces Two New Lines of SDHC Flash Memory Cards

Lexar has announced that new Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC™) flash memory cards will be available as part of the company’s Platinum II and Standard lines of products. Press Release: Sony Announces 8GB Memory Stick PRO Duo

Sony has announced that the new 8GB Memory Stick PRO Duo will be compatible with all Sony Cybershot, Handycam and VAIO products (launched from the beginning of 2007), and with the Sony A100 DSLR camera. With a software update the Memory Stick will also be compliant with Sony VAIO products launched from the beginning of 2005, all PSPs (with system software ver. 2.81 or later) and Memory Stick Video Recorders. The 8GB Memory Stick PRO Duo (MSX-M8GS) should be available for purchase as soon as the beginning of February 2007. Read the full press release below.

Pentax and Hoya Merge Official

Just before the holidays, on December 21st, 2006, Hoya and Pentax announced a merger between the two companies where Hoya would merge Pentax into their business. The merger, expected to be finalized by October 1, 2007, would go under the name of Hoya Pentax HD Corporation.
