We don't normally cover a lot of "news" here in the Corner Blog, but this particular issue is one that directly affects us as artists - as photographers. If you only read one thing today, read this article. I wanted to do this issue justice, so instead of writing it myself, I asked Karen, one of the great mods in the PhotographyCorner forums, research and write this, and she did an amazing job. Take the time to read it the whole way through, then pass it along to all your friends, post it on your blog, email it to anyone you know that is an artist, whether they're a photographer, graphic designer, painter, whatever. Bibble Labs Releases Bibble Pro Version 4.9.9

Bibble Pro Version 4.9.9 adds Nikon D300, D3, Canon 1Ds Mark 3, G9, Olympus E-3, Sony A700, and adds tethering support for Intel Mac's with Nikon dSLR's. This has gotta be the last version before we get to see version 5 (we'll have to give them award plaques when they finally get it out). In the meantime, here's the press release for version 4.9.9.

It’s been a long time coming, but I’m finally to the point where I can start catching up on photography industry news. Some of this news dates back over 2 months, but better late than never, eh? I’ll try not to cram too much into each Corner Compilation post, so expect about 10-12 “bits of news” in each compilation. Hopefully I’ll be all caught up in a matter of weeks (cross your fingers). You read it right. Dpreview.com, probably the most popular digital photography review website on the Internet, was acquired by Amazon.com. The announcement appeared on the dpreview website earlier today.

Press Release: Nikon Introduces All-New Capture NX Software

Last year, Nikon announced the release of their new image processing and editing software, Capture NX. It claims to be a “powerful and intuitive new software [that] simplifies workflow while reducing the time and effort required to edit and process images.” From what I’ve seen of Capture NX, it is a pretty big improvement over their previous software Nikon Capture 4. If you’re somewhat computer literate, (even if you barely know how to submit your site to a photography directory), it’s easy and intuitive enough to figure out - especially if you have some experience in a program like Photoshop. Obviously the software is only good for those of us that own a Nikon camera (sorry Canon/Olympus/Fuji/Pentax/Other owners), and there are no plans to expand the software to work with other RAW formats (as far as I’ve heard).

Lexar has announced that new Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC™) flash memory cards will be available as part of the company’s Platinum II and Standard lines of products. Panasonic Introduces New Pro High Speed SD Cards

Panasonic has announced plans to launch new Pro High Speed SD Cards with Class 6 SD Speed specification with 1GB/2GB/4GB memory capacity. Sales of the memory cards worldwide are scheduled to begin in February 2007. Even when using the cards with the highest resolution dSLR, photographs can enjoy full performance of consecutive shooting without worrying about overflow of buffer memory. Full press release below:

Press Release: Sony Announces 8GB Memory Stick PRO Duo

Sony has announced that the new 8GB Memory Stick PRO Duo will be compatible with all Sony Cybershot, Handycam and VAIO products (launched from the beginning of 2007), and with the Sony A100 DSLR camera. With a software update the Memory Stick will also be compliant with Sony VAIO products launched from the beginning of 2005, all PSPs (with system software ver. 2.81 or later) and Memory Stick Video Recorders. The 8GB Memory Stick PRO Duo (MSX-M8GS) should be available for purchase as soon as the beginning of February 2007. Read the full press release below.

Now NAPP (National Association of Photoshop Professionals) has announced the launch of Darkroom (http://www.darkroommagazine.com) - the how-to magazine for Adobe Photoshop Lightroom users.

Kodak - The Winds of Change (Video)

If you haven’t seen this video released by Kodak on YouTube yet, you’re really missing out… I’d describe the video to you and comment on it, but it’s probably just as easy for me to show it to you (gotta love new technology, eh?), and honestly, it really speaks for itself (if you find it starts out boring, just wait to the 45-50 second mark… trust me).
