November 2008 Bling

PhotographyCorner Commitment AwardIn a couple of days the November 2008 Newsletter should be going out, which means that it’s time to hand out Commitment Awards to those that have reached milestones with regards to their post-count in the past month. Commitment Awards are handed out to those who have shown great community dedication & commitment, and have reached a specific post-count milestone (1k, 2k, 5k and 10k). And by awards, I mean award, as there’s only one person who has reached a milestone in the past month (come on, people, step it up!). So let’s do whatever it is you do when congratulating people online (toast them, clap for them sitting there in front of your computer, yell out a big Hip-Hip-Hooray…)… to Kevin (aka grif04) for reaching the 2,000 post mark this past month! Read more »

We’ve been doing the SmugMug Scavenger Hunts (it’s like a normal scavenger hunt, but instead of looking for things outside, you’re looking for specific photographs found on the SmugMug site) for a couple of months now. The final winner of the SmugMug Scavenger Hunt #2 was announced yesterday, so today, we announced the SmugMug Scavenger Hunt #3. You can read the rules and how-tos here (oh, and did I mention there are over $250 in SmugMug accounts available to be won each month??!). Read more »

SmugMug Scavenger Hunt #2 - Standard Account Winner and Hunt Results

A couple months ago we announced a new contest series called SmugMug Scavenger Hunts and about a month ago, we announced the 2nd scavenger hunt with the objective to locate 15 photographs on SmugMug.com. One week after announcing the 2nd hunt, we awarded our first prize: a 1-year subscription to a SmugMug Pro Account to BlindVision. Then, a couple of weeks ago, we announced the winner of a SmugMug Power Account: NomadRip. Today we announce our final prize for the SmugMug Scanvenger Hunt #2 (as well as reveal all of the photographs from the hunt). And the winner is… Read more »

Reminder: Corner Community Chat - November 5th - Travel Time

When we originally released the Corner Community Chat schedule for 2008, we had yet to figure out the topic of our November 5th chat. newlove, the wonderful mod here at the Corner that has been organizing all these chats, came up with another fantastic theme: Travel Time (no, not Time Travel!) where we can discuss places we’ve lived or visited, and where the best “photography spots” are located in those places. Bring a pen and paper and get ready to take notes so you can plan your next photographic vacation. Meet us in the Corner Chat Room this Wednesday night at 7pm ET (midnight GMT), and we’ll be going until around 9pm ET (2am GMT) and bring some of your best photographic locations along with you! Read more »

Reminder: Corner Community Chat on October 29th - Story Time

When we originally released the Corner Community Chat schedule for 2008, we hadn’t figured out the topic of our October 29th chat. newlove, the wonderful mod here at the Corner that has been organizing all these chats, came up with a fantastic theme: Story Time. It’s just what the name suggests, we will be sharing our best and worse experiences while out in the field. So put your brain on rewind and bring your stories to the Corner Chat Room Wednesday night at 7pm ET (11pm GMT), and we’ll be going until around 9pm ET (1am GMT). It should be a fun, amusing, educational and enlightening night (and for those of you that need it, I’ll be sending out a PM reminder about an hour before the chat starts)! Read more »

SmugMug Scavenger Hunt #2: Power Account Winner

Last month we announced a new contest series called SmugMug Scavenger Hunts and we’re already smack-dab in the middle of SmugMug Scavenger Hunt #2. The objective is to locate 15 new photographs on SmugMug.com (you can see the list here), and now it’s time to award the second of 3 SmugMug Accounts (actually, we were supposed to announce a winner a couple of days ago… oops!). This time up for grabs is a SmugMug Power Account. So how do we pick a winner? Well, gather all the entries we received in the first two weeks, and we stick their usernames in a hat (well, actually an online randomizer). We (the randomizer) then picks out one of the correct answers, and they win a SmugMug Power account… it’s as easy as that. And the winner is… Read more »

CCC#58 Wants You to Photograph Your Home Town

You’ve got no excuse this time. I try to make most of the Contest Corner Challenges accessible to as many people as possible, but obviously, certain geographical limitations do come into play once and a while. This time, though, you’ve got no excuse. We all live somewhere. Even better, I know you all have access to the internet, so I’m guessing not one of you lives in some remote tree fort or anything. I lived in the middle of no where for a year, and even then, I wouldn’t be able to wiggle out of this one. Your task? Take a photograph of your home town. It doesn’t matter if you live in a huge metropolis like New York or Singapore, or you live in a small town or in the middle of no where (like Fort Simpson in the Northwest Territories of Canada), you can do this one. Read more »

Scorched Earth by Brad V Wins CCC#57

Contest Corner Challenge #57: Pollution Winning Photograph - Scorched Earth by Brad VAfter 5 days of voting, Brad V emerged victorious as the winner of Contest Corner Challenge #57: Pollution. The fifty-seventh Contest Corner Challenge asked photographers to photograph some form of pollution, or the negative effects of pollution on an environment. There were a lot of great (if not depressing) photographs of pollution all over the planet, but Brad’s photograph of an orange, smog-filled, night sky behind numerous smoke-stacks spitting pollution into the air easily won the contest with over 25% of the votes from a total of nineteen entries. Read more »

Premiere Projects & Membership - Upgrades & Sales

Last week, we paid tribute to Carl (aka ohenry) for all the hard work he’s done on the Premiere Projects over the past year (just to clarify, he’s not dead or anything… just passing along the torch!). The torch has been passed to Mario, known around these parts as Nikon_Mario. With this passing of the torch, we’re taking the opportunity to do a little retooling of the Premiere ProjectsRead more »
