August is coming to a close (I can’t believe it’s almost September already), and that means it’s time for us to cast our votes for the upcoming Photograph of the Month. Every month, during the last week of each month, the PhotographyCorner community gets together and the Premiere Members nominate photographs posted to the Corner from the past month (in the forums or galleries). I have the arduous job of narrowing down those nominations to 15 or so photographs. Then the community has 7 days to cast their vote. Around the first of each month, the winner is announced and is featured on the homepage of PhotographyCorner for the entire month.

You can check out the 15 photographs up for the honors here in the September 2010 Photograph of the Month Photo Gallery, then head on over to the voting thread to make your decision. It doesn’t happen very often, but his first nominated photograph turned into his first Photograph of the Month win. Yeah, I’m talking about Vince Maidens, who’s only been a member of the Corner for 1 month (as of today), and has only been a Premiere Member for about a week. He uploaded this photo on the forums, and a couple of weeks later is taking home a $650 lens. Not too shabby if I do say so myself.

Usually, during the last week of every month, the community gets together to vote on the best photographs posted in the forums over the past month. Usually. Things have been a little crazy around the PhotographyCorner offices lately (in addition to me being on vacation), so unfortunately, voting got pushed back. If you check out the photos, though, I think you’ll agree it was probably worth the wait. Take a look at the 15 photographs nominated for the June 2010 Photograph of the Month contest. I know, right? They are Fantastic. But now the hard part: you have to pick just one. You have to cast your vote here in the voting thread.

I’m a week+ late in announcing it on the blog (just moved into a new house & new office), but the May 2010 Photograph of the Month was revealed at the beginning of the month: Pure Beauty by Scott W. You can check out the final voting results here, but Scott grabed over 25% of the votes from the 15 nominated photographs. Voting took place last week, and yesterday, Brad V was announced as the winner of the January 2010 Photograph of the Month contest with his photograph “The Albino Stare.” The photograph was taken at Reptilia, a reptile zoo in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada (just like Brad’s first PotM win - the April 2009 Photograph of the Month).

It seems a little counter-intuative, but around the Corner, we vote for the Photograph of the Month the week before the month starts. So the last week of May, we vote on the June Photograph of the Month, the last week of August we vote on the September Photograph of the Month, so therefore, since it’s the last week of December, we’re currently casting our ballots for the January 2010 Photograph of the Month. The logic is that the winner of the vote (albeit from photographs posted in the previous month) will have their photograph displayed in the month they won the contest. So the winner of the January 2010 Photograph of the Month contest, while voted on in the last week of December 2009, will actually be displayed on the homepage of PhotographyCorner for the entire month of January 2010. The final Photograph of the Month contest of 2009 has come and gone (well, the January 2010 contest runs the last week of December, but that’s to crown the PotM for January 2010, so it doesn’t count). After tallying the votes, Abdulmajeed Al-Thiban squeaked out his first PotM victory (and with only 3 posts in the forums to date, I might add) with his photograph “Sand Waves.” The thumbnail on the right here doesn’t do it justice, though. The voting was extremely close this month - in fact, soumen’s photograph “Lake Little Tso-Moriri” beat out masoud’s photograph by only 1 vote! Check out the full voting results here.

From the 14 nominated photographs (check them all out here in the November 2009 Photograph of the Month Photo Gallery), “Lake Little Tso-Moriri” squeaked out a victory with just under 15% of the votes.
