"The Walk About" is the 2011 Premiere Project Photograph of the Year

After a week of voting (check out the voting results here), the community has decided that “The Walk About” by jim3584, the winning photograph of Premiere Project #109: Reflections, is the best Premiere Project photograph from 2011! Congratulations, Jim, for winning the third annual Premiere Project Photograph of the Year contest!!!

Premiere Projects, hosted in the Premiere Corner every couple of weeks, are group photography projects where Premiere Members challenge themselves to grow as photographers by participating in themed “assignments.” Each project outlines a topic for the members to photograph. The photos are then submitted for discussion/critiquing/reactions. At the end of the project period, a vote is held to determine which photo best represents the theme while maintaining high photographic quality.

If you haven’t already, join the over 400 Premiere Members for HALF PRICE! The half price sale ends on Friday, February 10th, 2012. As a Premiere Member you can win bigger prices in contests, participate in Premiere Projects, have access to private forums, special rank icons and custom ranks. Check out all the benefits here, and sign up to become a Premiere Membership here.

The contest was sponsored by Think Tank Photo - a group of designers and professional photographers focused on studying how photographers work, and developing inventive new carrying solutions to meet their needs. By focusing on “speed” and “accessibility,” they prepare photographers to Be Ready “Before The Moment,” allowing them to capture those historic moments that reflect their personal visions and artistic talents. For some companies, it is only about the product. For them, it is more: It is about supporting photographers doing their job. If Think Tank can design products that help photographers travel easier, take pictures faster, and organize their gear more efficiently, then they will have accomplished something beyond the bags themselves. As a special offer to members of PhotographyCorner, when you order $50 or more of Think Tank gear through this link, at checkout you will be able to select a product to receive for free! For winning the PPPotY, Jim will receive a Think Tank Photo Retrospective® 5 camera bag (Valued at $137.50)!

If you haven’t already, be sure to drop by the award thread in the Photograph of the Year forum to congratulate Jim on his win!

Vote for the Best Premiere Project Photograph of 2011

This week, we take a look at the Premiere Project winning photographs from the past year, and the community is voting on their favorites. Vote for the 2011 Photograph of the Year: Final Round

It’s down to the final stretch. Crunch time. We’ve narrowed down over 225 photos to 30 (congrats to the 30 photographs that have photos in the final voting round!). Now we have to whittle down those 30 to 10. 10 photographers will walk home (ok, we’ll technically mail the prizes out) with over $10,000 in prizes (and the 1st-overall winner with $3,250 in prizes!). But before we get to the prizes, we need you to vote on the photos.

Every year, I am blown away by the quality of entries we receive. Even if you’re not a member of the Corner, or don’t want to vote, take some time to browse through the 30 photographs in the 2011 Photograph of the Year Photo Gallery - the photos are outstanding. And don’t forget about our fantastic group of sponsors, including Depositphotos and SmugMug, so be sure to browse through all the sponsors in the sponsors list here and thank them for sponsoring the contest here.

The final voting round ends at approximately 4:00pm EST on Thursday, January 26th, 2011 (9:00pm GMT). So once you’ve browsed through the entries in the 2011 Photograph of the Year Photo Gallery, head on over to the voting thread in the forums to cast your vote.

Good luck to everyone in the final voting round - and congratulations to everyone that has participated so far this year - it’s been an amazing contest (now go vote already!).

Check Out (and Vote On!) the Entries for the 2011 PotY Contest!

We received almost 500 entries for the PhotographyCorner.com 2011 Photograph of the Year contest - the most to date I believe - and after all the photos were checked to make sure they stuck to the rules, 226 of them are up and ready to be voted on. Due to the number of entries, we’ll do voting in 2 rounds. For Round 1, which runs from January 11th, 2012 to January 18th, 2012, the entries have been split up into 10 different groups of 23/22. The top three photographs in each Group (the three photographs that receive the most votes) will be placed into the final round where they will be voted on to decide the 10 prize winners. In the event of a tie, both photographs will move to the final round.

This year we have over $10,000 in prizes to hand out, including a grand prize worth $3,250!! Check out the stunning list of prizes on the PhotographyCorner.com 2011 Photograph of the Year Prizes page. We’ve got a fantastic group of sponsors, including Depositphotos and SmugMug, so be sure to browse through all the sponsors in the sponsors list here and thank them for sponsoring the contest here.

Make sure you vote in each group during round 1 of the voting process so that all 226 photos get a fair chance. If you have any questions specifically about the voting process, please ask them here (If you have any other questions about the contest, please ask them in the designated discussion thread).

Voting will be secret (ie. no one will know who you voted for, and the results of the vote will not be displayed until after the voting period has ended). You can only vote once in each group, and you must have 5 posts on the forum (including gallery comments) in order for your vote to count. Also, all photographs are anonymous, so please do not identify if you are the photographer of a specific photograph, or if you know which photographer took a certain photograph. You can, of course, vote for your own photograph if you wish.

Here are the links to each of the photo galleries and the polls. You have until January 18th to vote in Round 1.

You’ve got 226 photos to wade through, so what are you waiting for? Check out the entries and cast your vote here!

Announcing the PhotographyCorner.com 2011 Photograph of the Year Contest

I love this time of year. Sure, there’s the snow (at least up here in Canada), and the Christmas lights and holiday parties and all that good stuff, but for the past 5 years, it’s also meant it’s time for the PhotographyCorner.com Photograph of the Year contest! And it’s back on, baby!

This year we have over $10,000 in prizes to hand out, including a grand prize worth $3,250!! Check out the stunning list of prizes on the PhotographyCorner.com 2011 Photograph of the Year Prizes page. We’ve got a fantastic group of sponsors, including Depositphotos and SmugMug, so you’re not going to want to miss this one (make sure to browse through all the sponsors in the sponsors list here).

All of the info for the contest is listed (or linked to) on the main contest page - so make sure to bookmark it and head back there throughout the contest. But basically, here’s the low down:

  • You can enter any photograph you want (Premiere Members can enter 2!), as long as it was taken in 2011.
  • You have to have a PhotographyCorner account (obviously) with at least 5 posts (if you don’t have an account yet, register for one here).
  • No over manipulation (no HDR, selective color, signature, borders, etc).
  • Images must be submitted by January 6th, 2012, and voting will begin on January 11th (we do voting in 2 rounds: first the images get split up into a number of groups, and the winners of those groups move on to the final round). The winners (yes, we give prizes to the top 10 finalists!) will be announced after voting is complete at the end of January.
  • Make sure to read the Rules before sending in a submission (I rejected over 150 entries last year alone!).
  • Before Submitting a Photograph, make sure you are aware of what pieces of information are required with your submission (explained on the How to Submit a Photograph page), as well as what limitations there are as to what photographs can be submitted.
  • Over $10,000 in prizes available to be won - check out the full prize list here (note: certain prizes are only available for Premiere Members to win - get more information on becoming a Premiere Member here)

Now you know what I’ve been working on the past couple of months, eh? It’s your turn to get to work going through all the photos you’ve taken in 2011 and deciding which one you’re going to enter (or if you’re a Premiere Members, which two you’re going to enter).

Before you start searching through your photographs, though, browse through the list of prizes and the sponsors that are providing those prizes, and make sure to head over to the forum to thank the sponsors for donating over $10,000 in prizes. We’ve set up a specific thread for you to say thanks - before you enter a photograph, make sure you’ve dropped a quick post in there. Of course, if you have any questions, we have a specific place set up for you to ask them as well - head on over to this thread in the forum to ask them.

Looking forward to hundreds on fantastic entries for the PhotographyCorner.com 2011 Photograph of the Year Contest!!!

The Last Contest Corner Challenge of 2011

Contest Corner Challenge #94: CelebrationAfter a great year of Contest Corner Challenges, after this contest we’ll be taking a break until the Photograph of the Year contest is over (more on that soon!). You’ve got over 2 weeks to get an entry in for this one, so I’m expecting a bunch of entries! The theme of “celebration” is wide open. Photograph a celebration (people dancing, a wedding, holiday parties, etc), someone celebrating (someone with a party hat on, opening presents, blowing out candles), or objects that would indicate a celebration is going on (presents, graduation cap, alcohol bottles, etc). Basically, if your photograph has anything to do with celebrating or a celebration, you have yourself an entry.

The contest is again being sponsored by our friends at DayMen Photo Marketing (an innovative manufacturer and distributor of high quality imaging products and accessories) and Acme Made (best known for incorporating innovative textiles and materials with contemporary styling to produce attractive bags, cases and sleeves for laptops, eReaders, smart phones, and digital cameras) - (I promise some new sponsors and prizes in 2012!). If the winner is a Premiere Member, they will receive an Acme Made Laptop Sleeve or an Acme Made Kindle Hardback Folio case. If the winner is not a Premiere Member, they will receive a Lifetime, Level I Premiere Membership.

Entries are due in by December 20th, and voting will begin on the 21st. Make sure to read through all the contest details here on the contest page (and be sure to read through the submission guidelines so I don’t have to reject so many entries this time!). I’m looking forward to seeing lots of celebratory photographs!

"Golden Path in the Woods" is the December 2011 PotM

December 2011 Photograph of the MonthThere were a couple of other photographs that were close, but with almost 20% of the vote (see the final voting results here), Nancy C’s photograph “Golden Path in the Woods” took top honours in the December 2011 Photograph of the Month contest. It was a fantastic line-up, though - check out the photos that she was up against in the December 2011 Photograph of the Month Gallery.

The contest was again sponsored by our friends at DayMen Photo Marketing (an innovative manufacturer and distributor of high quality imaging products and accessories) and Acme Made (best known for incorporating innovative textiles and materials with contemporary styling to produce attractive bags, cases and sleeves for laptops, eReaders, smart phones, and digital cameras). Since Nancy C was not a Premiere Member, she will receive a Lifetime, Level I Premiere Membership.

You think the thumbnail on the right looks good? You’ve gotta see a larger version of the photograph in the award thread. And don’t forget to congratulate Nancy on her first Photograph of the Month win!!
