Cast Your Vote - Contest Corner Challenge #64: Like a Child

Just as the voting for the July 2009 Photograph of the Month contest comes to a close, so starts the voting for the Contest Corner Challenge #64: Like a Child. CCC#64: Like a Child challenged photographers to simply take a photograph of a child, and 25 photographers accepted that challenge. You can view their photographs in the Photo Gallery, then decide which one is both the best technically and best depicts the theme of the contest by casting your vote in the voting threadRead more »

Vote for the Most Intense Photograph in CCC#63

Since we changed up the Contest Corner Challenges for 2009, we’ve allowed an extra week or so for entries to come in for each contest. That change has resulted in more entries, but more importantly, higher-quality entries. Just take a look at the photographs entered for Contest Corner Challenge #63: Intensity. They are fantastic, which makes your job that much more difficult. Read more »

Vote For the Best "Before & After" Photos in CCC#62

For Contest Corner Challenge #62: Before & After, instead of taking and submitting one photograph, the community was challenged to take and submit two photographs (inspired by the fact we have two sponsors - AutoFX Software and Think Tank Photo - note: if you make purchases from either of the sponsors by using the links from the Corner, a portion of your purchase goes to support the Corner!). Sixteen photographers decided to take up the challenge, and we have 32 photographs to check out in the CCC#62: Before & After Photo Gallery (2 from each photograph… a “before” photograph and an “after” photograph). Read more »

Contest Corner Challenge Changes & Updates

It’s been a couple of months since our last Contest Corner Challenge. You’ve been patiently waiting, and they’re finally ready to come back. Things will be a little different with the Contest Corner Challenges this year, however. A while back, we made the decision to do a new CCC every three weeks. While it was great to have so many contests throughout the year, because they were so frequent, participation in each contest was a little lower. In addition, partly due to the current economy woes, it became harder to fill the sponsorship spots for so many contests. That’s why, this year, there will be fewer Contest Corner Challenges. In addition, we’ll be extending the voting span from 5 days to 7 days, to match that of the Photograph of the Month contests. Read more »

Contest Corner Challenges Canceled

Not permanently… but at least for a couple of weeks; probably until the 2008 Photograph of the Year is complete. There are a couple of surprises coming, and we want to make sure they’re all in place before we get the Contest Corner Challenges rolling again. If you really miss the challenges, why not give the Premiere Projects a try? Check out www.photographycorner.com/premiere-membership for more information on Premiere Membership and the Premiere Projects. And if you haven’t already, make sure you enter the 2008 Photograph of the Year Contest. There are $11,500 in prizes available to be won! Read more »

Contest Corner Challenge #57: Pollution

According to Wikipedia, “pollution is the introduction of contaminants into an environment that causes instability, disorder, harm or discomfort to the physical systems or living organisms they are in. Pollution can take the form of chemical substances, or energy, such as noise, heat, or light energy.” Most photographs we take are of “beautiful” or “pretty” things - generally speaking, we don’t enjoy photographing “ugly” things - however, it is sometimes the most disturbing of subjects that make for the most powerful photographs. Your challenge for Contest Corner Challenge #57: Pollution is to photograph some form of pollution, or the negative effects of pollution on an environment. Read more »

Photograph the Wind for Contest Corner Challenge #51

I didn’t have a Contest Corner Challenge idea for CCC#51 when it came time to post up the contest earlier this afternoon, so I was doing what I normally do when I haven’t come up with an idea: wandering around inside and outside the house with a camera in my hand looking for inspiration. I stepped outside, and the wind blew the door right out of my hand. Voilà! The wind! But how does one photograph the wind? Read more »

Contest Corner Challenge #50 Announced (Early!)

As I mentioned in the email I sent out a couple of days ago (which you only would have received if you’re a member of the PhotographyCorner Forums - you can register here), I’ll be out of town at a conference most of this week (May 4th - 9th), so, unfortunately, the winner of Contest Corner Challenge #49: Play Ball won’t be announced until I get back into the office. To make up for that, though, I’ve announced Contest Corner Challenge #50 a couple of days early. Read more »

You Have 5 Days to Vote for The Path

As always, when the entry period for a Contest Corner Challenge is over, we go to a 5-day voting period to decide the winner of the contest. The voting thread and poll for Contest Corner Challenge #48: The Path was put up today, and we have until approximately 6:45pm EST on Sunday, April 13th, 2008 (that’s 10:45pm GMT with all the daylight savings time stuff accounted for). There are a total of 24 entries for this contest which can be seen here in the CCC#48: The Path Photo Gallery. The contest is sponsored by our good friends at SmugMug.com, who are offering a SmugMug Power Account (1-year free subscription) if the winner is not a Premiere Member or a SmugMug Pro Account (1-year free subscription) if the winner is a Premiere Member (just another great reason to become a Premiere Member, eh?). Follow the Path to Contest Corner Challenge #48

It seems like it was just yesterday that I announced CCC #47, but here we are, 3 weeks later, and we’re onto our next Contest Corner Challenge (just 2 away from the half-century mark!). CCC#48: The Path is all about leading lines. Leading lines are lines within an image that leads the eye to another point in the image, or occasionally, out of the image. For this challenge, you need to use a path (road, walkway, bridge, etc) as a leading line. The path should comprise most of the photograph. You can read all the details about the contest here.

The contest is sponsored by our friends at SmugMug.com. If the winner is not a Premiere Member, they will receive a SmugMug Power Account (1 year free subscription) - a $59.95 value! If the winner is a Premiere Member, they will receive a SmugMug Pro Account (1 year free subscription) - a $149.95 value!! In addition, the winner will also receive 5 of the new PhotographyCorner.com Pens!

Entries are due by 11:59pm GMT, Monday, April 7th, 2008. So go find your path, photograph it, and get your entries in! Read more »

Tyger Wins CCC#47: Digital Darkroom #2

With over 30 entries, CCC#47: Digital Darkroom #2 made for an interesting twist on our regular Contest Corner Challenges. Instead of taking a photograph, you got to “make” a photograph from at least 2 of 10 provided photographs (you have to be logged into the forums to see them), and what a wide array of entries we received! In the end, however, Tyger, with his photograph “Forgotten Railway,” came through as the winner, with over 21% of the votes. Read more »

Another Digital Darkroom Contest Corner Challenge

About a year ago we ran a “Photoshop” Contest Corner Challenge. It was a really popular one, and I promised we would do it again sometime. Sometime is here! Simetime is now!! Start your photo-editing programs!! Here’s your chance to show off some of your “photoshopping” abilities! There was a bit of a controversy last time we did a digital darkroom challenge, but I think in the end, everyone really enjoyed the change. You can read more about the discussion we had about it last time here. This contest (CCC#47: Digital Darkroom #2) gives us 10 photographs to choose from. You need to use at least 2 of the attached photographs to create your own “photograph” (you can see the 10 photographs here in the contest thread - note: you have to be logged into the forum to see the photos). Read more »
