Just as the voting for the July 2009 Photograph of the Month contest comes to a close, so starts the voting for the Contest Corner Challenge #64: Like a Child. CCC#64: Like a Child challenged photographers to simply take a photograph of a child, and 25 photographers accepted that challenge. If you have kids, you know that for 20 years or so, the majority of your photographs are, not surprisingly, of your kids. There’s something special about the pure joy and innocence that can be captured in the photograph of a child, and now you have the chance for that photograph to win you some cash. Contest Corner Challenge #64: Like a Child challenges you to simply take a photograph of a child or of children.

After a week of voting, Contest Corner Challenge #63: Intensity has come to a close. With 25 entries, the voting was pretty spread out, but Ball Intensity by PicturePony came out on top (by a mere 1 vote!) with one-sixth of the votes (almost 17%!).

Our 62nd Contest Corner Challenge was unique in the sense that the challenge had photographs submit not one, but two photographs for the contest. The first photograph submitted was to be a “before” photograph, and the second to be the “after” photograph. We had 32 photographs submitted from 16 different photographers (you can see all the photographs submitted in the Contest Corner Challenge #62: Before & After Photo Gallery), but there was one pair of photographs by JustJerk that received almost 20% of the votes (check out the final voting results here): Morning Start - before and after of the egg, of course! Read more »

For Contest Corner Challenge #62: Before & After, instead of taking and submitting one photograph, the community was challenged to take and submit two photographs (inspired by the fact we have two sponsors - AutoFX Software and Think Tank Photo - note: if you make purchases from either of the sponsors by using the links from the Corner, a portion of your purchase goes to support the Corner!). It’s been a couple of months since our last Contest Corner Challenge. You’ve been patiently waiting, and they’re finally ready to come back. Things will be a little different with the Contest Corner Challenges this year, however. A while back, we made the decision to do a new CCC every three weeks. While it was great to have so many contests throughout the year, because they were so frequent, participation in each contest was a little lower. In addition, partly due to the current economy woes, it became harder to fill the sponsorship spots for so many contests. That’s why, this year, there will be fewer Contest Corner Challenges. In addition, we’ll be extending the voting span from 5 days to 7 days, to match that of the Photograph of the Month contests. Read more »

A couple of weeks ago, along with the announcement of Contest Corner Challenge #60: That Bites, we started a site-wide fund raiser called “Malaria Bites.” Our goal? To raise money to purchase mosquito nets for children in Liberia to help prevent the spread of malaria by partnering with the Canadian Red Cross. It’s not very often that the winner announcements of the Photograph of the Month contest and a Contest Corner Challenge happen on the same day (ok, they were both supposed to be announced yesterday, but I spread it out a bit - it’s a lot of work!), but it’s even less common to have the same person win two Contest Corner Challenge contests in a row.
