It’s a crazy time of year for a lot of people - I know that - kids going back to school, vacations coming to a close, busy times at work. I get it. But if you could, I’d love it if you could squeeze in a couple of minutes and cast your vote for the Contest Corner Challenge #55: The Face of EducationRead more »

Capture the Face of Education for CCC#55

With Contest Corner Challenge #54 complete, we've announced the 55th CCC - The Face of Education. For most places around the world, the end of August/the beginning of September marks the time where the kids head back to school. What better time to capture the "face of education?"

J.K. Mann of Greenwell Springs, Louisiana Wins CCC#54: Dark Outlines

With over 30 entries, we knew Contest Corner Challenge #54: Dark Outlines was going to be a tough vote, but one photographer and photograph stood out among the rest: J.K. Mann and his photograph “The Honeymooners.” CCC#54: Dark Outlines challenged the community to take a photograph of any subject, as long as that subject was silhouetted. Easier than it sounds, though. It was fantastic to see 32 people step up to the plate with some fantastic entriesRead more »

Shameel Kumar Wins CCC#53: Four-Wheel Fotography

Although we announced the winner in the forums almost a week ago, I’m still doing some catching up, and only getting around to announcing it on the blog today. We had 21 great entries for Contest Corner Challenge #53: Four-Wheel Fotography, but one entry obviously stood above the rest. Read more »

Upgrade Update #2

It’s been about 13 hours since we started the upgrade, and we’re obviously not finished yet. The forum is working, but it still looks pretty funny. We’re basically having to rebuild the template (all the files that make the Corner look like the Corner) from the bottom-up, so it looks like it will take us a bit longer than we initially thought. We’re aiming to have most of the design bugs complete by this time (10pm-ish EST) tomorrow (Tuesday) night - we’ll be working on it most of the day tomorrow. In the meantime, feel free to continue to post stuff up in the forums and galleries, and don’t be freaked out if stuff looks different, or you get an error, or it’s blue instead of orange, or whatever - over the next day or two. Because of the delays, however, the winner announcement of Contest Corner Challenge #52, and the announcement of CCC#53 will be a day or two late. I’m aiming for late (as in past midnight) on Tuesday night for the CCC#52 winner announcement, and hopefully mid-afternoon on Wednesday for the announcement of CCC#53 (but don’t hold me to that… it depends on how the rest of the upgrade goes, and how tired I am by midnight on Tuesday night). But enough with the updates - go back and enjoy the new Corner forumsRead more »

Time to Vote for the Contest Corner Challenge #51 Winning Photograph

A couple of weeks ago, we announced Contest Corner Challenge #51 which asked photographers to “photograph the wind.” Now, I know what you’re thinking: “How can one photograph the wind?” Well, we may not be able to actually photograph the wind, but as Christina Rossetti’s poem by the same name notes, there are ways to see evidence of the wind all around us, and 28 photographers took up that challenge and captured evidence of the wind in a photograph. Read more »

Photograph the Wind for Contest Corner Challenge #51

I didn’t have a Contest Corner Challenge idea for CCC#51 when it came time to post up the contest earlier this afternoon, so I was doing what I normally do when I haven’t come up with an idea: wandering around inside and outside the house with a camera in my hand looking for inspiration. I stepped outside, and the wind blew the door right out of my hand. Voilà! The wind! But how does one photograph the wind? Read more »

Contest Corner Challenge #50 Announced (Early!)

As I mentioned in the email I sent out a couple of days ago (which you only would have received if you’re a member of the PhotographyCorner Forums - you can register here), I’ll be out of town at a conference most of this week (May 4th - 9th), so, unfortunately, the winner of Contest Corner Challenge #49: Play Ball won’t be announced until I get back into the office. To make up for that, though, I’ve announced Contest Corner Challenge #50 a couple of days early. Read more »

Vote for the Best Baseball (or Cricket) Photograph in CCC#49

The entry period for Contest Corner Challenge #49: Play Ball has come and gone, and we’re now in the voting stage of the CCC. With the minor controversy over the subject of the contest, I was surprised how few entries we received (ok, it wasn’t horrible, but it’s the lowest number of entries we’ve had in a while). Read more »
