"Golden Path in the Woods" is the December 2011 PotM

December 2011 Photograph of the MonthThere were a couple of other photographs that were close, but with almost 20% of the vote (see the final voting results here), Nancy C’s photograph “Golden Path in the Woods” took top honours in the December 2011 Photograph of the Month contest. It was a fantastic line-up, though - check out the photos that she was up against in the December 2011 Photograph of the Month Gallery.

The contest was again sponsored by our friends at DayMen Photo Marketing (an innovative manufacturer and distributor of high quality imaging products and accessories) and Acme Made (best known for incorporating innovative textiles and materials with contemporary styling to produce attractive bags, cases and sleeves for laptops, eReaders, smart phones, and digital cameras). Since Nancy C was not a Premiere Member, she will receive a Lifetime, Level I Premiere Membership.

You think the thumbnail on the right looks good? You’ve gotta see a larger version of the photograph in the award thread. And don’t forget to congratulate Nancy on her first Photograph of the Month win!!

It's Time to Cast Your Vote (x2)

It doesn’t happen very often, but every now and again voting for the Contest Corner Challenge and Photograph of the Month contests line right up. Double the voting, double the fun (double the work-load - ha!). Earlier today, voting for Contest Corner Challenge #93: Reproduction kicked off. Then, a couple of hours later, voting for the December 2011 Photograph of the Month got under way.

Just in the Nick of Time - The December 2010 Corner Newsletter

Tamron 18-207mm VC Macro Zoom LensWith less than an hour to spare (at least in my timezone), the December 2010 PhotographyCorner Newsletter is, as I type this, being sent out to all the members of PhotographyCorner. Talk about coming down to the wire. My New Years Resolution? To get the Corner Newsletters out well in advance of the last day of each month. Anyways, if you’re a member of the Corner already, it should be on is way to your inbox right now, if not already there. If you’re not a member (you can become one here for free), you can read it online in the Corner Newsletter Archive here).

The final Corner Newsletter of 2010 was sponsored by Tamron and their AF18-270mm VC Macro Zoom Lens - the EISA Award Winner Best Travel Zoom 2009-2010. The world’s first 15X zoom lens—is truly the perfect all-in-one standard zoom lens. With its vast zoom-range, the new Tamron AF18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC lens enables the user to cover virtually any photographic subject from wide angle to ultra telephoto simply by turning the zoom control. It covers angles of view equivalent to 28mm to 419mm when converted to the 35mm format. This breakthrough lens is equipped with Tamron’s exclusive, proprietary tri-axial Vibration Compensation (VC) anti-shake mechanism that eliminates or substantially reduces the effects of handheld camera shake, letting you take blur-free hand-held pictures at up to four stops slower than usual. As a result, you can enjoy the convenience of handheld photography in virtually any situation, from shooting candid images, to covering sporting events, to event journalism, without worrying about camera shake having an adverse effect on image quality. In combining an amazingly high zoom ratio along with the VC function Tamron has maintained a high priority on its traditional goals of lightness and compactness. The lens is ultra light at just 19.4 oz. and is a mere 3.8” long. As a result the new Tamron AF18-270mm Di II VC delivers all the functionality and performance you expect from the latest Tamron ultra high power zoom, a lens that exemplifies our time-honored concept of “One great lens covering everything from wide angle to telephoto.” This is the ideal standard zoom lens for your camera for stress-free shooting of all subject matter from sunrise to sunset. Shoot hand-held confidently with Canon and Nikon DSLR cameras with smaller APS-C size sensors. And like all Tamron lenses purchased from an authorized Tamron dealer, you get a Tamron 6-Year USA warranty and a $150 mail-in rebate thru 12/31/10.

Have a Happy New Year - see you around the Corner in 2011!!

Calatrava's Dream is the December 2010 Photograph of the Month

December 2010 Photograph of the MonthThe City of Arts and Sciences (Valencian: Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències, Spanish: Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias) is an entertainment-based cultural and architectural complex in the city of Valencia, Spain. Designed by Santiago Calatrava, an internationally recognized and award-winning Valencian Spanish architect, sculptor and structural engineer, it is now also featured as the December 2010 Photograph of the Month, thanks to the brilliant photograph charales took of it.

Check out the other fantastic photographs that were up for the December 2010 Photograph of the Month in the December 2010 PotM Gallery, and see how the votes all broke down in the voting thread (spoiler: Calatrava’s Dream by Carlos received almost 1/5th of the votes). The contest was sponsored by one of our new favorite sponsors: PrintedArt - an online collection of emerging and established fine art photography sold as finished artwork on advanced display material such as acrylic and aluminum dibond. Photographers can also use the PrintedArt photolab to print their own work on the same modern display material. Since Carlos is not a Premiere Member, he will receive a production of his photograph (or another photograph of his choice) on aluminum dibond with acrylic finish (maximum length or height of 15 inches - a $90 value).

Take a look at his award-winning photograph of an award-winning structure in the award thread (a lot of awards going on here). Make sure to give Carlos a warm-welcome to the Corner (he only joined last month) and congratulate him on his first (obviously) Photograph of the Month victory!

Your Time to Vote for the December Photograph of the Month

I’m not giving you a ton of notice, and for that, I apologize. But you still have a couple of days - a couple of days to cast your vote for the best photograph up for the title of December 2010 Photograph of the Month. Every month, during the last week of the month, the community gets together to decide which photograph posted up over the past month deserves to hang out on the homepage of PhotographyCorner.com (and pick up some sweet prizes by our awesome sponsors). The Premiere Members nominate photographs throughout the month (special kudos to chellezfotoz who is super consistent at nominating photographs each month), and I whittle them down to the 15 you have to vote on each month. Check out the top 15 photos from the past month here in the December 2010 Photograph of the Month Photo Gallery, then go on over to the December 2010 Photograph of the Month voting thread to cast your vote. Voting ends at approximately 3:00am EST (8:00am GMT) on Wednesday, December 1st, 2010.

The contest is being sponsored by one of our new favorite sponsors: PrintedArt - an online collection of emerging and established fine art photography sold as finished artwork on advanced display material such as acrylic and aluminum dibond. Photographers can also use the PrintedArt photolab to print their own work on the same modern display material. If the winner is a Premiere Member, they will receive a production of their photograph on aluminum dibond with acrylic finish (maximum length or height of 20 inches - a $150 value). If the winner is not a Premiere Member, they will receive a production of their photograph on aluminum dibond with acrylic finish (maximum length or height of 15 inches - a $90 value).

You’ve only got a couple of days to vote - so go do it now before it’s too late!

December 2009 Bling

PhotographyCorner 1K Commitment AwardThe final Corner Newsletter of 2009 is due out in a couple of days (I’d better hurry, too, as 2009 is over in less than 2 days!). Before we send out each newsletter, however, we always make sure to hand out Commitment Awards to those that have reached milestones with regards to their post-count in the past month. Commitment Awards are handed out to those who have shown great community dedication & commitment, and have reached a specific post-count milestone (1k, 2k, 5k and 10k). This month we only have 1 person receiving an award, but there are a bunch of people on the cusp of receiving awards - I see a lot of awards that will be handed out in 2010. Congratulations to MAAQ for reaching the 1,000 post milestone - the last bling recipient of 2009!

Sand Waves is the December 2009 Photograph of the Month

December 2009 Photograph of the Month - Sand Waves by Abdulmajeed Al-ThibanThe final Photograph of the Month contest of 2009 has come and gone (well, the January 2010 contest runs the last week of December, but that’s to crown the PotM for January 2010, so it doesn’t count). After tallying the votes, Abdulmajeed Al-Thiban squeaked out his first PotM victory (and with only 3 posts in the forums to date, I might add) with his photograph “Sand Waves.” The thumbnail on the right here doesn’t do it justice, though. Check out the full-sized image posted in the award thread (and while you’re there, make sure to congratulate and encourage Abdulmajeed on his first Photograph of the Month win)!

The contest was sponsored by one of our favourite sponsors at Daymen Photo Marketing and have awarded Abdulmajeed a Lifetime, Level I Premiere Membership. If you haven’t already, make sure to check out all the photographs that Sand Waves battled against in the December 2009 Photograph of the Month Photo Gallery. Oh, and if you want to see the final voting results, they’re now posted in the voting thread.

If you want to have a photograph nominated for the next Photograph of the Month contest, all you have to do is post photographs up in the forums and galleries and hope that a Premiere Member will nominate one of them (or become a Premiere Member and nominate a photograph yourself!).

A week before the end of the month, I have the task (pleasure!) of sorting through the fantastic photographs nominated by Premiere Members for the Photograph of the Month contest. I spent hours last night looking at all the photographs nominated and finally got them whittled down to 15 - check out the photographs that are up for the December 2009 Photograph of the Month in the photo galleries.

December 2008 Corner Photo Walks

Remember back in the middle of October we held our first Corner Photo Walk? Well, it’s time for another one. But, instead of just picking one day, we’re going to give you the whole month of December to put it together. Nikon_Mario, the brave moderator that heads up our photo walks, has already posted an intro thread to the December 2008 Photo Walk.

Lei of Tangs by Reeflections is the December 2008 Photograph of the Month

December 2008 Photograph of the MonthThere were 15 photographs that made it to the final voting thread for the December 2008 Photograph of the Month contest (including two that got auto-entered because they were the winners of the Premiere Projects over the past month). Though there weren’t a ton of votes (what’s up with that? Too lazy to check out some photos and cast your vote??!), Reeflections pulled off his second PotM victory in 3 months to take the December 2008 PotM crown with his photograph of a Hawaiian green sea turtle being cleaned by a school of yellow tangs.

December 2008 Photograph of the Month Voting Time

I can’t believe it’s the last week of November already - where did November go??! As we’ve done for over 4 years, the last week of the month means it’s time to vote for the Photograph of the Month. For whatever reason, when we started doing the Photograph of the Month contests, we did the voting for the PotM for the next month; so in August, we’d vote for the September Photograph of the Month, and in May, we’d vote for the June Photograph of the Month, etc. I guess the thinking is that the winning photograph would be displayed in the next month. Some people think it’s a little weird (like we should vote for the November Photograph of the Month at the end of November). Oh well. It’s worked for 4.5 years, so it’s too late to change it now, right?
