SmugMug Corner #102: Howard Hull

It's Friday, which means it's time for another great photographer interview. This week, in our bi-weekly column "SmugMug Corner" sponsored by SmugMug.com, we meet 73-year-young photographer Howard Hull. We've got 16 photographs of his below, along with a great interview. And for all those that think you need a fancy dSLR to take fantastic photos, learn from Howard - every single one of the beautiful photographs below were taken with a point-and-shoot camera!

Wild Beauty is the CCC#74: ...Bring May Flowers Winning Photograph

CCC#74: ...Bring May Flowers Winning PhotographyOver 50 photographs (you can check them all out here in the CCC#74: …Bring May Flowers Photo Gallery), and a new way to vote (the ability to vote for multiple photographs instead of just one), made for an exciting conclusion to PhotographyCorner’s 74th Contest Corner Challenge: nrshapiro claimed his 2nd CCC win (by 1 vote, I might add), with his photograph “Wild Beauty” (pictured right). You can check out the voting results here in the voting thread.

The contest was sponsored by our good friends at Red River Paper - Inkjet paper from inkjet paper experts. Look for reviews of new photographic paper and greeting card paper available from Red River Paper coming soon to the Corner Resource Center. In addition, a portion of every purchase made at Red River Paper through this link goes towards supporting the Corner - get some great paper and support your favorite photography site at the same time! Since Neil is a Premiere Member, he will receive a prize pack of a variety of greeting card and paper products courtesy of Red River Paper. If you haven’t already, make sure to drop by the award thread to congratulate Neil on his win.

Contest Corner Challenge #74 Calls for Flower Photographs

Contest Corner Challenge #74: ...Bring May Flowers As I’m sure many of you have guessed because of the popular saying “April showers bring May flowers,” Contest Corner Challenge #73: April Showers… leads us directly into Contest Corner Challenge #74: …Bring May Flowers. This time, instead of photographing rain, your challenge is to photograph the “flowers” portion of the saying. No special requirements or restrictions (though, of course, you have to follow the Contest Corner Rules & Regulations) - just take a photograph of flowers. Simple as that. Get all the details on the contest in the Contest Corner Forum and specifically in the contest thread here.

The contest is sponsored by long-time partner Red River Paper. Look for reviews of new photographic paper and greeting card paper available from Red River Paper coming soon to the Corner Resource Center. In addition, a portion of every purchase made at Red River Paper through this link goes towards supporting the Corner - get some great paper and support your favorite photography site at the same time!

Now, if the winner is a Premiere Member, they will receive a prize pack of a variety of greeting card and paper products courtesy of Red River Paper. If the winner is not a Premiere Member (you can find out how to become a Premiere Member here), they will receive a Lifetime, Level I Premiere Membership.

Entries are due in by May 12th, and voting will start on the 13th, so get out there and start snapping pics of flowers and get your entries in!

Articles By Amy: How to Work With Flowers And Depth Of Field In Digital Photography

This week, I’ve had the privilege of being very busy with photography. Included in my great fortune was a question by a lovely gentleman by the name of Steve asking about depth of field. He asked me about taking photos of flowers and getting the “perfect depth of field.”

April Showers Bring May Flowers - CCC#33 Announced

CCC#32 just came to a close, so that means it’s time to announce the next CCC. It’s a little cliché, but it’s the first thing that popped into my head (believe it or not, I don’t always plan the challenges more than a couple of minutes in advance!): April Showers Bring May Flowers.
