Jim Harris Wins His Third PotM

August 2011 Photograph of the MonthThe competition was tight, and the votes were quite spread out, but after they were tallied up, jaharris1001’s photo “Old Citrus Wagon on a HOT Summer Night” took almost 1/5th of the ballots cast (you can see the final voting results here). To see the other photos up for the title of August 2011 Photograph of the Month, drop by the August 2011 PotM Photo Gallery.

The contest was sponsored by our friends at DayMen Photo Marketing (an innovative manufacturer and distributor of high quality imaging products and accessories) and Lowepro (inventors and designers of popular camera bags, photographers and lovers of the natural world who take our reputation as The Trusted Original™ to heart). Since Jim is, of course, a Premiere Member, he will receive a Lowepro Terraclime 100 camera bag.

Make sure to drop by the award thread in the forums to check out a full version of the winning photo, and to congratulate Jim on his third Photograph of the Month.

Corner Member Close Up: Jim Harris

Friday is my favorite day of the week around the Corner - every Friday we either have a SmugMug Corner photographer interview (where we meet a photographer from SmugMug.com), or we have a Corner Member Close Up (where we can browse through some photos, and get to know one of our very own photographers from the Corner). This week we meet Jim Harris (aka jaharris1001), who's been a member of the Corner for about 2.5 years. He placed in the 2009 Photograph of the Year contest, won the August 2008 Photograph of the Month contest, and recently picked his his second Photograph of the Month win by winning the October 2010 Photograph of the Month contest. Jim answered every single question we sent his way (usually we only get 4-5 answers out of the "Bonus Questions" section from each interview), so enjoy the extra long interview below, along with over 20 of his favorite photographs!

Early Morning Flow by Jim Harris is the October 2010 PotM

October 2010 Photograph of the Month - Early Morning Flow by jaharris1001Photographs of soft, flowing water have taken the last two Photograph of the Month contests (see the August 2010 Photograph of the Month and the September 2010 Photograph of the Month) and jaharris1001 (aka Jim Harris) continued the trend by taking October 2010 Photograph of the Month honors with his photograph “Early Morning Flow” (pictured right). The voting was ridiculously close, though, as Jim pulled off the win by ONE vote, and TEN other entries within 9 votes - one of the tightest votes we’ve ever seen!! Check out the final voting results here.

The contest is being sponsored by one of our newest sponsors here around the Corner: PrintedArt - an online collection of emerging and established fine art photography sold as finished artwork on advanced display material such as acrylic and aluminum dibond. Photographers can also use the PrintedArt photolab to print their own work on the same modern display material.

Since Jim is a Premiere Member, he will receive a production of his photograph on aluminum dibond with acrylic finish (a $150 value) courtesy of PrintedArt. And that photo is going to look fantastic on aluminum dibond.

If you haven’t already, make sure to drop by the award thread and congratulate Jim on his second Photograph of the Month win.

Jim Harris Wins August 2008 Photograph of the Month Contest

Despite the fact that the voting and the winner announcement was a couple of days later than normal, that, by no means, makes the winning photograph any less than fantastic. Jim Harris (aka jaharris1001) of Deltona, Florida won the August 2008 Photograph of the Month contest with his photo titled “Pilons and Morning Colors.”
