The June 2011 Corner Newsletter is Out

Just in time for the long weekend, the June 2011 Corner Newsletter is done and being sent out right now (even with the new server, it still takes a while to send out 20,000 emails, you know). If you’re a member of the Corner and have elected to receive emails, it should be arriving in your inbox shortly. If you’ve elected to not receive the newsletters, or you’re not a member of the Corner, you can read the entire newsletter online here in the “Corner Newsletter Archive”http://www.photographycorner.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=54.

The newsletter was sponsored by our good friends at PrintedArt.com. PrintedArt was not only the lead sponsor of the 2010 Photograph of the Year contest, but they’ve also sponsored several of our Photograph of the Month contests (providing several members with FANTASTIC LOOKING prints). In addition, they’ve continued to support and invest in the growth of the PhotographyCorner community by advertising in the newsletter and on the site as well (I’m sure you’ve seen their banners around!). The best part about working with PrintedArt, however, is that the product/service they provide is superb. For more information, and to see how good your photographs will look printed on aluminum dibond with acrylic, visit them at http://www.printedart.com.

June 2011 Bling

PhotographyCorner Commitment AwardUsually the day before each Corner Newsletter goes out (the newsletter will be out some time tomorrow), we take a couple of minutes to recognize and award members of the Corner who have hit posting milestones over the past month. Commitment Awards are handed out to those who have shown great community dedication & commitment, and have reached a specific post-count milestone (1k, 2k, 5k and 10k). We have one member receiving an award this month: Tj_Delikat - a dedicated member of the Corner, and the organizer of the biggest Corner Meet-up to date (Allentown, PA - May 11-15, 2011). Thanks for your dedication and commitment to making PhotographyCorner an awesome online destination for photographers!

Pick the Winner of the June 2011 Photograph of the Month Contest

Pretty much every month over the past 7+ years, when it’s the last week of the month rolls around, we know it’s time to vote for the best photos posted up over the past month. Sure we’re not the only site that posts up a photograph of the month, but there aren’t many that feature the quality of photos we display each month, and certainly not many that give away prizes to the winner each month - and then to let the community decide each month? I think that makes the PhotographyCorner Photograph of the Month pretty unique.

Here’s how it works: Over the course of the month, 20,000+ of you post up photos in the forums and galleries. Premiere Members can nominate the best photos they come across throughout the month. With a week to go, I narrow down the nominations to the top 15 or so, and post them up in the contest galleries. Then the community has a week to browse through the galleries and cast their vote in the voting threads. On the first of the month, we count the vote, declare a winner, and give them a prize!

You can check out the June 2011 Photograph of the Month contest gallery here, then head on over to the voting thread to cast your vote before June 1st. The contest this month is being sponsored by Acme Made (Founded in 2002, Acme Made specializes in designing protective accessories for today’s modern lifestyle. The company is best known for incorporating innovative textiles and materials with contemporary styling to produce attractive bags, cases and sleeves for laptops, eReaders, smart phones, and digital cameras. Acme Made is “Designed Protection.”). If the winner is a Premiere Member, they will receive their choice between several Acme Made camera bags/laptop sleeves/e-reader cases. If the winner is not a Premiere Member, they will receive a Lifetime, Level I Premiere Membership.

So head on over to the June 2011 PotM Gallery to check out the 15 fantastic photos from the past month, then make sure to cast your vote before June 1st!

June 2010 Corner Newsletter

It went out last night, but in case you missed it, don’t subscribe to it, or it ended up in your bulk mail folder, here’s an extra notification for you. Yup, I’m taking about the June 2010 Corner Newsletter. If you received it via email, you’ve no doubt read it by now, but in case you haven’t, you can, of course, read it in full in the Corner Newsletter Archives.

The newsletter is full of great stuff (I’m biased…, but my wife says it’s good, too) like a $70 rebate on a sweet new lens, contest updates, photographer interviews, a bunch of video corners, cool threads in the forum, and even a couple new resources (an article & product review) added to the Corner Resource Center. You can read it all online here… and if you want to receive it in your inbox next month, just make sure you sign up for a free account. Oh, and don’t forget to check out the sponsor of the newsletter, Tamron and their new SP AF 17-50mm F/2.8 Di-II VC Zoom Lens.

PhotographyCorner Commitment AwardI’m in the middle of preparing to send out the Corner Newsletter and almost forgot to hand out the Commitment Awards earned in the past month! We have 4 awards to had out this month, including a Platinum Commitment Award to Oneof42 (only the sixth Platinum Award handed out to date). Commitment awards are awarded to those who reach certain post milestones (10,000 posts for a platinum award, 5,000 posts for a gold award, 2,000 posts for a silver award, and 1,000 posts for a bronze award) and have shown dedication and commitment to the Corner. Thanks to everyone who continues to contribute to the Corner, and congratulations to those who are receiving the awards below. A special thank-you to Andy who’s receiving the Platinum Commitment Award - a fantastic photographer, dedicated moderator, and all-around great guy to have in the PhotographyCorner family.

Oneof42 Receives His 6th Photograph of the Month Honors

Even though voting was delayed and a few days shorter than normal, voting for the June 2010 Photograph of the Month revealed a winning photograph: Starburst by Oneof42 - a moderator in the PhotographyCorner community, and one of the most popular photographers on the site. The June 2010 PotM victory marks his SIXTH since joining the Corner over 4 years ago. Check out the photos he was up against in the June 2010 Photograph of the Month Gallery. To see how close the voting was, you can see the final voting results in the voting thread in the Corner forums.

For winning the June 2010 PotM, Andy will receive a Tamron SP AF 10-24mm Aspherical (IF) Lens (a $499 value!) courtesy of Tamron (it’s a fantastic lens - hopefully Andy will write up a review on it when he receives it for the Corner Resource Center - if you want one for yourself, pick one up today at Amazon.com). Also, make sure to drop by the award thread and congratulate Andy on his win.

(Oh, and head over to the homepage. Notice that both the current PotM winning photograph and the CCC winning photograph are both dandelion clocks… coincidence?)…

Voting for the June 2010 PotM Better Late Than Never

Usually, during the last week of every month, the community gets together to vote on the best photographs posted in the forums over the past month. Usually. Things have been a little crazy around the PhotographyCorner offices lately (in addition to me being on vacation), so unfortunately, voting got pushed back. If you check out the photos, though, I think you’ll agree it was probably worth the wait. Take a look at the 15 photographs nominated for the June 2010 Photograph of the Month contest. I know, right? They are Fantastic. But now the hard part: you have to pick just one. You have to cast your vote here in the voting thread.

Because we’re so late voting this month, we’ve shortened the number of days to vote from 7 to 5 (just this month), so you’ve only got until approximately 7:30pm EST (11:30pm GMT) on Monday on June 7th, 2010 to make up your mind. It may take you until then to decide, so head on over to the voting thread to get started.

The contest is being sponsored by Tamron - one of the world’s leading manufacturers of photographic lenses. If the winner is a Premiere Member, they will receive a Tamron SP AF 10-24mm Aspherical (IF) Lens (a $499 value!! - That’s a pretty sweet deal for being a Premiere Member, eh? ). If the winner is not a Premiere Member, they will receive a Tamron Domke bag and strap.

So what are you waiting for??! Cast your vote ASAP!

June 2009 Bling

PhotographyCorner Commitment AwardThe June 2009 edition of the Corner Newsletter is set to go out in a couple of days (hopefully before the weekend, as I’m planning to be camping all weekend) and, as always, that means it’s time to hand out Commitment Awards to those that have reached milestones with regards to their post-count in the past month. This month, 2 members are receiving awards, and the both happen to be moderators. June 2008 Newsletter is Up, Up and Away

I realize the June 2008 Corner Newsletter is later than normal this month, but it’s always worth waiting for, right? The server finished sending out the newsletters about an hour ago, so if you haven’t received it yet, you’re not going to. Make sure to check the email settings in your UserCP that you allow emails from the administrator - that’s where the newsletters come from! If you didn’t receive it, but want to read it (of course you do!), you can read it online here. PhotographyCorner Commitment AwardIt’s the middle of the month, and I’m preparing to send out the Corner Newsletter which means it’s time to hand out awards around the Corner. We have 5 awards to had out this month, including a Platinum Commitment Award to ohenry (only the fifth Platinum Award handed out to date). Now, these commitment awards are awarded to those who reach certain post milestones (10,000 posts for a platinum award, 5,000 posts for a gold award, 2,000 posts for a silver award, and 1,000 posts for a bronze award), but this one for Carl (aka ohenry) is much more than the 10,000+ posts he’s added to the Corner over the past 4+ years (yes, Carl has been around the Corner for over 4 years), but it’s a HUGE thank-you on my part for all the stuff Carl does around the Corner. Not only are all of his posts valuable to anyone that reads them (in fact, he wrote the article on how to critique a photograph), but Carl also pretty much runs the Premiere Corner and the Premiere Projects (and all he gets is, well, nothing). While I run and manage the Corner more or less by myself, without the help of a select few people like Carl, PhotographyCorner would not be the site that it is. Thanks to everyone who continues to contribute to the Corner, and congratulations to those who are receiving the awards below.
