November 2011 Corner Newsletter

Earlier today, shortly after the November 2011 Bling was handed out, like clockwork the Corner Newsletter started showing up in inboxes all across the planet. If you’re a member of the Corner and you’ve elected to receive mail from us (you can change your email preferences here), it should be in your inbox waiting for you to read. If you’re not a member of the Corner (what’s up with that? register here!), or you’ve elected not to receive mail from us , you can still read it online here in the Corner Newsletter Archive.

The newsletter was sponsored by Stockbox Photo® Gallery Software, which provides an affordable solution for photographers and artists to display and sell their work online. You can create your own stock photo library or online proofing system and stop paying commissions to third party providers. It’s a 1-time license fee and no commission on sales! It’s a full featured SEO optimized online gallery maker and digital asset manager that gives you the ability to auto generate thumbnails, watermark images, utilize a dynamic user registration system, view images in a slideshow, user lightboxes, integrated Rights Managed pricing calculator, batch upload of media, advanced search features, display a variety of media formats (images, video, audio), XMP format IPTC support, and offer a variety of products (including instant downloads) with a fully integrated shopping cart and secure online payment processing. Stockbox Photo® also supports Credit, Duration and Package subscriptions. Their software can be used out of the box as a stand alone website, or it can be easily added to an existing site. The powerful web based admin control panel gives you all that you will need to create a dynamic and exciting e-commerce enabled photo gallery website.

Visit www.stockboxphoto.com for further details (and use the promo code “pc10“for a 10% discount!!!

I actually did a brief review of the Stockbox Photo® Gallery Software last month - read it here in the Corner Resource Center. You can use this software for pretty much all your online photo storage needs - from simply showing off your photos, to selling prints, and even selling your own photography as stock photos for everything from 1-time prints all the way to printing brochures, t-shirts, and posters! It’s so customizable, it’s almost overwhelming.

And make sure to read the newsletter all the way through this month - if you do, you’ll find a link to some photos of my new baby boy!

"Fall in Vermont" by NEM Photo is the November PotM

November 2011 Photograph of the MonthIt’s fitting that a photograph of a picturesque fall scene wins the November 2011 Photograph of the Month, don’t you think? “Fall in Vermont” by NEM Photo garnered almost 1/5th of the votes (check out the final voting results here) from a fantastic field of photographs. Take a look at the 13 photographs that the community voted on in the November 2011 Photograph of the Month Photo Gallery.

The contest was again sponsored by our friends at DayMen Photo Marketing (an innovative manufacturer and distributor of high quality imaging products and accessories) and Acme Made (best known for incorporating innovative textiles and materials with contemporary styling to produce attractive bags, cases and sleeves for laptops, eReaders, smart phones, and digital cameras). Since NEM Photo was not a Premiere Member, they will receive a Lifetime, Level I Premiere Membership.

You’re definitely going to want to check out a larger version of the winning photograph and congratulate NEM Photo on his first PotM win in the award thread. Beautiful shot!

Vote for the November 2011 Photograph of the Month

I can’t believe it’s the end of October already. The winter months always seem to creep up quickly, but this year it’s even more so with the due date for the birth of my first child on November 1st. Yikes - that’s a week away!! Around the Corner, however, the last week of each month means it’s time to cast our votes for the best photograph that has been posted up in the forums and galleries over the past month (and then the winning photo gets displayed on the homepage for an entire month!).

The Premiere Members nominate photographs throughout the month (special hat tip to chellezphoto who did the lions share of nominations this month), and I whittled them down to 10-15 photos for you to vote on. Check out the 13 that made the cut this month in the November 2011 Photograph of the Month Gallery.

If the winner is a Premiere Member, they will receive an Acme Made Laptop Sleeve or an Acme Made Kindle Hardback Folio case. If the winner is not a Premiere Member, they will receive a Lifetime, Level I Premiere Membership.

Before the end of the month (and the baby’s due date - yikes!), make sure to head on over to the voting thread and cast your vote!

The November 2010 Corner Newsletter

As seems to have become the standard, the most recent edition of the Corner Newsletter just squeaked out in the month that bares its name. If you’re a member of the PhotographyCorner community, you should have either already read it, or it’s waiting for you in your inbox (we sent it out last night). If you’re not a member of the PhotographyCorner community (register here, it’s FREE), you can still read the entire newsletter online here in the Corner Newsletter Archives.

The newsletter was sponsored by the Tamron SP 70-300mm Di VC USD — Best-in-Class Tele Zoom. In the pursuit to achieve the most outstanding image resolution in the 70-300mm class, Tamron’s 60th Anniversary lens - the SP 70-300mm Di VC USD (Model A005) - uses an advanced optical design that features LD (Low Dispersion) and XLD (Extra Low Dispersion) lens elements that prevent chromatic aberration. As a result, the SP 70-300mm Di VC USD boasts sharper contrast and greater descriptive performance than all others in its class. This is the first Tamron lens to sport USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive), Tamron’s very own ultrasonic auto-focus drive mechanism. This USD mechanism delivers fast focusing, making it a perfect telephoto zoom choice for photographing sports and other fast-moving subjects. The lens also boasts Tamron’s proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization to assist in hand-held photography, not only at long focal length ranges where blurring is common, but also under low-lit conditions, dramatically enhancing photographic freedom. This combination of best in class image resolution, Ultrasonic Silent Drive and Vibration Compensation is a new achievement of Tamron technology, culminating in the production of a premium 70-300mm telephoto zoom lens. Winner of EISA Best Zoom Lens 2010-2011. Available for full-frame and APS-C sensor cameras in Canon, Nikon and Sony mounts (the latter without VC). Winner of several international awards including the prestigious EISA Award for Best Zoom 2010-2011. $50 rebate thru 12/31/10. Check it out here.

4 in One is the November 2010 Photograph of the Month

November 2010 Photograph of the Month - 4 in One by cup4tmlIt’s not the first time it’s happened, but the community is always excited when it does. The November 2010 Photograph of the Month comes directly out of the Premiere Projects. The voting was spread pretty thin, but with over 12% of the votes, cup4tml’s entry into Premiere Project #87 took the November 2010 crown with his photo titled “4 in One.” Check out the final voting results here.

The contest is being sponsored by one of our new favourite sponsors here around the Corner: PrintedArt - an online collection of emerging and established fine art photography sold as finished artwork on advanced display material such as acrylic and aluminum dibond. Photographers can also use the PrintedArt photolab to print their own work on the same modern display material. PhotographyCorner and PrintedArt also recently announced a joint photography collection based on the winning photographs of the Photograph of the Month contest. Get all the details of this new partnership here.

Since Doug is a Premiere Member, he will receive a production of his photograph on aluminum dibond with acrylic finish (a $150 value) courtesy of PrintedArt.

If you haven’t already, make sure to drop by the award thread and congratulate Doug on his first Photograph of the Month win.

Vote for the November 2010 Photograph of the Month

The end of the month around the Corner is always an exciting time because we have the chance, as a community, to vote on the best photographs posted to the Corner in the past month. Throughout the month, the Premiere Members nominate awesome photographs they see posted in the forums and the galleries, then I have the difficult task of narrowing down those nominations to 10-15 photographs that we all get to vote on. Check out the 15 photographs we have up for the November 2010 Photograph Month here in the Photo Gallery. You have until the wee hours of the morning on November 1st to cast your vote here in the voting thread. The photo with the most votes wins!!

The contest is being sponsored by one of our new favorite sponsors: PrintedArt - an online collection of emerging and established fine art photography sold as finished artwork on advanced display material such as acrylic and aluminum dibond. Photographers can also use the PrintedArt photolab to print their own work on the same modern display material. If the winner is a Premiere Member, they will receive a production of their photograph on aluminum dibond with acrylic finish (maximum length or height of 20 inches - a $150 value). If the winner is not a Premiere Member, they will receive a production of their photograph on aluminum dibond with acrylic finish (maximum length or height of 15 inches - a $90 value).

Last month the voting was ridiculously close as jaharris1001 pulled off the win by ONE vote with TEN other entries within 9 votes - so make your vote count!!! Cast your vote today.

Reminder: Corner Community Chat - November 26th

When we originally released the Corner Community Chat schedule for 2008, we had yet to figure out anything regarding the November 26th chat. We don’t have a topic, nor do we have a host for this chat, so it’s a free-for-all. Show up and chat about whatever you want to. Meet up in the Corner Chat Room tonight at 7pm ET (midnight GMT), and hang out as long as you’d like - but remember to clean up after yourselves!

Oh, and I won’t be sending out a reminder PM before the chat starts, so it’s up to you to remember to be there. See you in the chat room!

November 2008 Bling

PhotographyCorner Commitment AwardIn a couple of days the November 2008 Newsletter should be going out, which means that it’s time to hand out Commitment Awards to those that have reached milestones with regards to their post-count in the past month. Commitment Awards are handed out to those who have shown great community dedication & commitment, and have reached a specific post-count milestone (1k, 2k, 5k and 10k). And by awards, I mean award, as there’s only one person who has reached a milestone in the past month (come on, people, step it up!). So let’s do whatever it is you do when congratulating people online (toast them, clap for them sitting there in front of your computer, yell out a big Hip-Hip-Hooray…)… to Kevin (aka Kevin Griffin) for reaching the 2,000 post mark this past month!

The Eyes are the Window to the Soul - CCC#42 Revealed

StudioLine Photo Classic 3You know how the saying goes: “The eyes are the window to the soul.” In photography, the eyes, especially in portrait photography, make or break the photograph. Contest Corner Challenge #42: Window to the Soul challenges members of the Corner to photograph someone, and make their eyes be the main subject of the photograph. When someone looks at this photograph, the first thing they should notice is the eyes (no selective color allowed). You think you’re up for the challenge?

Andy Gives Back Again

Just like last month, Andy, the winner of the November 2007 Photograph of the Month, has decided to give his prize to one of the runner-ups (since Andy already has a great website of his own). Again, the cool guys at SmugMug thought it was a great idea, so it’s my privilege to award the November 2007 PotM prize to our very own GREAPER. Congrats, Brian! 1 more year of Pro Account goodness at SmugMug for you (Brian’s had a SmugMug membership for as long as I can remember).

Congrats again on the win, Andy (his FOURTH PotM win), and congrats on the prize, Brian (and thanks to SmugMug for being an awesome sponsor!).
