Just a quick post (then I’m heading to bed) to let you know that the May 2008 Corner Newsletter has been sent out (so if you’ve set your preferences to receive it, it’s waiting for you in your inbox). If you didn’t receive it, you can always read it online here. Oh, and make sure you check out the newsletter sponsor: Parade Portfolio Management Tools - without their sponsorship, you wouldn’t have received a newsletter this month.  Read more »

Corner Resource Center Catch-Up #3

As I slow make progress catching up adding articles, tutorials and product reviews to the Corner Resource Center, I’ll keep you posted on the blog. I decided, before I write the May Newsletter, I’d do 3 more resources (so the newsletter might not go out until late tonight, or some time tomorrow). We have an article, a tutorial and a product review to keep you busy for a while.

I'm Back - Time To Catch Up

As I mentioned on the weekend, I’ve been out of town all week. Well, I’m back, and I’ve got a pile of work to do around the Corner - man you guys like to keep me busy!! First, I’m going to tackle the next SmugMug Corner, followed by all the Contest Corner Challenge #49 stuff, and then I’ll finish up doing everything realted to CCC #50: What Is That??!. Once I’ve got all that done, I’ll start wading through PMs and emails, so if you’re waiting for a response, it could be a day or two more before I get back to you.

It’s great to be back - I missed you guys!!! Read more »

Corner Resource Center Catch-Up #1

If anyone has submitted an article or tutorial to me over the past 6 or so months, they’ve probably been disappointed that it has yet to show up in the Corner Resource Center. I’ve gotten behind, and the longer I left it, the more that piled up. Eventually it became too big of a mountain to climb, and they just sat in a folder, collecting virtual dust, on my desktop. Well, no more, I say!! I’m going to climb this mountain and get these great articles & tutorials done! Read more »

2008 Server Fundraiser Update #3

Less than a month ago we announced the 2008 Server Fundraiser project. As I’m sure you’ve noticed, we’ve been having around the Corner lately, and that we’ll soon need to move ourselves to a bigger and better server. In comes the 2008 Server Fundraiser. In addition to the 2008 Server Fundraiser page, I’ve added a banner at the top of the main forum page so that everyone can keep track of how we’re doing. So far, we’ve raised over 60% of our goal of $2,500 with over $1,500 in donations. Less than $1,000 to go! So what are you waiting for? Get your donations in!!! You’ll even get some cool stuff in return for donating, and one person will receive a Lowepro Stealth Reporter D550 AW camera bag! I have one of these bags myself, and it rocks.

We’ve raised over $1,500 in less than a month - you think we can get that last $1,000 before the end of April? Read more »

New Forum at the Corner - Photojournalism/Street Photography

It’s an announcement that a lot of you have been waiting for - a new sub-forum in the Feedback Corner - the Photojournalism/Street Photography forum! If you’re that person we see wandering around the streets with a camera glued to your face, this is the perfect place to put your photographs. Over the next week or two, the new moderators will have the super-fantastic-amazing-fun job of moving photos posted in other sections of the Feedback Corner to the new forum, but that doesn’t mean you have to wait to start posting in there. If you’ve got photojournalism or street photography photos you want feedback on, start posting them! If you just want to share those photojournalism & street photography photos, we have a specific section in the Corner Galleries as well: Photojournalism/Street Photography Photo Gallery. Enjoy (and you’re welcome street-photography-lovers!). Oh, and for the mods sake, make sure to read the Feedback Corner Guidelines before posting in there.  Read more »

Happy Easter!

Just a quick post to wish everyone a Happy Easter. I know not everyone recognizes or celebrates it, but it’s, at the very least, a good excuse to add a couple of extra colors around the Corner. Thanks to Erik Bernskiold for creating a PhotographyCorner Easter logo for us!

New Moderators around the Corner

Over the past couple of weeks we’ve been doing some mod recruiting for the Corner. We’ve received dozens of applications, and I’ve been sorting through them over the past couple of days. I know I said I was going to announce the new mods a couple of days ago, but with all the applications and follow-ups, it has taken me a couple of extra days. That being said, we now have our new mods… The Mod Squad is…. drumroll please… Read more »

As If You Didn't Know Already...

Canadian StampOk. I’ll admit it. The last of the prizes for the 2007 Photograph of the Year contest just went out last week. It’s not because I’m lazy or cheap or anything, though. I wanted to wait to make sure all the other prizes had gone out before I send the stuff that I had out. I learned my lesson from last year. I sent a bunch of stuff out right after the contest, only to have a couple of advertisers send me more stuff to send out. And when the contests are 100% international (which brings me to the point of this post), it can get pretty expensive. Sending a 12”×12”×12” (that’s 30cm x 30cm x 30cm) package to somewhere in Canada or the US from here (I’m in Barrie, Ontario, Canada) costs $20ish bucks. Sending one to Ireland or Australia or Portugal or something, though, can put me back as high as $120 for the same package. Yikes! No wonder a lot of the sponsors don’t want to ship overseas (and no wonder so many other photography contests, or contests in general, limit their contests to the US or the US and Canada). Read more »

The PhotographyCorner.com 2008 Server Fundraiser

I mentioned last week about some of the server problems we’ve been having around the Corner lately, and that we’ll soon need to move ourselves to a bigger and better server (speaking of which, have the band-aids we put on the server last week been holding - notice any problems around the site recently?). Well, the time is here. The time is now. The time is… well, for you to help! We’ve put together a “fundraiser” to help raise money for the new server. Read more »

Band-Aids on the Server

Since the big traffic surge from the 2007 Photograph of the Year contest, the server that hosts PhotographyCorner has been running at pretty much maximum capacity. More traffic and more people is always good, but, as some of you have noticed, we’re causing strain on the server. Read more »

Mod Squad Recruitment Update

Get to Work - this is a random imageA little over a week ago, I posted about recruiting some more mods for the Corner, and what a response I received! It’s awesome to know that so many of you want to help out around the Corner. I’m going to give a couple more of you stragglers two more days to get your application in (so get your emails to me by mid-day on Saturday - for more information on how to apply, read the blog post from last week).

I’ll go through the applications over the weekend, and I’ll be sending everyone that applied an email, with a couple of follow-up questions. I’ll expect the follow-up emails to be replied to by Tuesday night, and on Wednesday, I’ll announce the new mods to the rest of the Corner. So if you’re sitting on the fence, you have less than 2 days to get off. Read more »
