It’s down to the final stretch. Crunch time. We’ve narrowed down over 225 photos to 30 (congrats to the 30 photographs that have photos in the final voting round!). Now we have to whittle down those 30 to 10. 10 photographers will walk home (ok, we’ll technically mail the prizes out) with over $10,000 in prizes (and the 1st-overall winner with $3,250 in prizes!). But before we get to the prizes, we need you to vote on the photos.

Every year, I am blown away by the quality of entries we receive. Even if you’re not a member of the Corner, or don’t want to vote, take some time to browse through the 30 photographs in the 2011 Photograph of the Year Photo Gallery - the photos are outstanding. And don’t forget about our fantastic group of sponsors, including Depositphotos and SmugMug, so be sure to browse through all the sponsors in the sponsors list here and thank them for sponsoring the contest here.

The final voting round ends at approximately 4:00pm EST on Thursday, January 26th, 2011 (9:00pm GMT). So once you’ve browsed through the entries in the 2011 Photograph of the Year Photo Gallery, head on over to the voting thread in the forums to cast your vote.

We received almost 500 entries for the PhotographyCorner.com 2011 Photograph of the Year contest - the most to date I believe - and after all the photos were checked to make sure they stuck to the rules, 226 of them are up and ready to be voted on. Due to the number of entries, we’ll do voting in 2 rounds. For Round 1, which runs from January 11th, 2012 to January 18th, 2012, the entries have been split up into 10 different groups of 23/22. The top three photographs in each Group (the three photographs that receive the most votes) will be placed into the final round where they will be voted on to decide the 10 prize winners. In the event of a tie, both photographs will move to the final round.

This year we have over $10,000 in prizes to hand out, including a grand prize worth $3,250!! We’ve got a fantastic group of sponsors, including Depositphotos and SmugMug, so be sure to browse through all the sponsors in the sponsors list here and thank them for sponsoring the contest here.

Make sure you vote in each group during round 1 of the voting process so that all 226 photos get a fair chance. If you have any questions specifically about the voting process, please ask them here (If you have any other questions about the contest, please ask them in the designated discussion thread).

Voting will be secret (ie. no one will know who you voted for, and the results of the vote will not be displayed until after the voting period has ended). You can only vote once in each group, and you must have 5 posts on the forum (including gallery comments) in order for your vote to count. Also, all photographs are anonymous, so please do not identify if you are the photographer of a specific photograph, or if you know which photographer took a certain photograph. You can, of course, vote for your own photograph if you wish.

For many of us in the Corner community (and around the world), we’re right smack in the middle of the holidays (Christmas, Hanukkah, Festivus, whatever). Of course, around the Corner that also means that we’re in the middle of our annual Photograph of the Year contest. I’ve received hundreds on entries so far (I’m still working my way through them, so you will get a response from me eventually to let you know if your entry was accepted or not) and I can’t wait to show them all to you when voting starts in a couple of weeks.

One of the neat things about the contest this year is that Premiere Members can grab some bonus prizes (take a look at the prize list here)! If you want to have the opportunity to win some of the prizes, you have to be a Premiere Member. Announcing the PhotographyCorner.com 2011 Photograph of the Year Contest

I love this time of year. Sure, there’s the snow (at least up here in Canada), and the Christmas lights and holiday parties and all that good stuff, but for the past 5 years, it’s also meant it’s time for the PhotographyCorner.com Photograph of the Year contest! And it’s back on, baby!

This year we have over $10,000 in prizes to hand out, including a grand prize worth $3,250!! We’ve got a fantastic group of sponsors, including Depositphotos and SmugMug, so you’re not going to want to miss this one (make sure to browse through all the sponsors in the sponsors list here).

All of the info for the contest is listed (or linked to) on the main contest page - so make sure to bookmark it and head back there throughout the contest. But basically, here’s the low down:

You can enter any photograph you want (Premiere Members can enter 2!), as long as it was taken in 2011.
You have to have a PhotographyCorner account (obviously) with at least 5 posts (if you don’t have an account yet, register for one here).
No over manipulation (no HDR, selective color, signature, borders, etc).
Images must be submitted by January 6th, 2012, and voting will begin on January 11th (we do voting in 2 rounds: first the images get split up into a number of groups, and the winners of those groups move on to the final round). The winners (yes, we give prizes to the top 10 finalists!) will be announced after voting is complete at the end of January.
Make sure to read the Rules before sending in a submission (I rejected over 150 entries last year alone!).
Before Submitting a Photograph, make sure you are aware of what pieces of information are required with your submission (explained on the How to Submit a Photograph page), as well as what limitations there are as to what photographs can be submitted.

We’ve set up a specific thread for you to say thanks - before you enter a photograph, make sure you’ve dropped a quick post in there. More Prizes for the 2011 Corner Fund Raiser

Last week we announced the 2011 Corner Fund Raiser with a goal to raise $3,500 towards a new server for the site, as well as for the development of a mobile app (iPhone & Android) for the Corner forums. So far we’ve had 18 people step up and raise $600 (a little over 17% of the way there). Check out the list of people that have donated so far here. That’s a great start, but we still have quite a ways to go ($2,900). Have you donated yet? What’s holding you back?
