Is it possible to get a fairly good tripod for around $100. I've got a cheap one, I bought a long time ago, that's not worth a damn. What brand names should I be looking for?

Tripod questionSuccessguy May 5th, 2004, 10:15 AM Is it possible to get a fairly good tripod for around $100. I've got a cheap one, I bought a long time ago, that's not worth a damn. What brand names should I be looking for? Tim L. Walker May 5th, 2004, 10:34 AM I've always used cheap tripods, so I'm not sure I'll give the best advice... as long as it has 3 legs, and I can hook my camera up to it, I can usually make it work... Successguy May 6th, 2004, 11:43 AM Well in this case, maybe it's the photographer and not the tripod. Anyway, I think I might look around on eBay for one. Tim L. Walker May 6th, 2004, 08:31 PM Surprisingly, at least what I've seen, pawn shops usually have a selection of decent tripods... you might wanna check them out as well... Dephie May 10th, 2004, 01:31 AM There are lots of decent ones on ebay... if you're not taking motion shots, a gliding head doesn't really matter... you just want to make sure you can "take it with you" (i.e. portability), and that the legs can be adjusted not only in length, but also in how far out the can go (for setting up in "tough" places, like on rocks and in the bush). ;) I travel around a lot, so I'm looking for a lightweight one... let us know if you find one! :) Tim L. Walker May 10th, 2004, 07:28 AM Good points, Dephie. :) Very true. If you want a nice tripod, slik makes probably some of the best like the Slik Pro 700DX Tripod with 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/images/largeimages/131427.jpg), for example. ilford guy May 20th, 2004, 02:37 AM I had really great Manfrotto, that I had bought a few years ago for $99.00 and that was brand new. Tim L. Walker May 20th, 2004, 04:30 AM I've been a big fan of Manfrotto as well... really study, but they're heavy, too, so not ideal for carrying around... but good tripods for sure. drlynn May 29th, 2004, 05:03 AM Manfrotto/Bogen make some pretty nice ones in the $100-120 range. B&H sells them as kits with legs and head combined. The 3001BN tripod with 3025 3D head weighs under 5 pounds and sells at B&H for $119 plus shipping. Tim L. Walker May 29th, 2004, 05:42 AM I think I need a new tripod, too... maybe a nice, heavy, sturdy one... time for another Manfrotto, I think... always been a big fan... I'll have to check out B&H... I assume they'll ship to Canada, but it might be cheaper for me to find something up here... Kara May 29th, 2004, 06:29 AM Well in this case, maybe it's the photographer and not the tripod. Anyway, I think I might look around on eBay for one. I bought my tripod off ebay. I think it was .99 cents for the tripod and $24.00 for the shipping. Even came with its nifty own bag. I havent had any probs with it. Theres some mass sellers on there with good feedback, just be sure to buy from someone who doesnt have a bad reputation (Check their feedback) Depends on how cheap they go - I went as far as to go to walmart and bust one of those tripods they have there out of the box (Under supervision of course  I think they thought i was going to run out of the store with the tripod in one hand and my camera in the other - I know go figure) and they seemed to work well. The good thing about that place is if you buy it, and you dont like it... you take it back. Tim L. Walker May 29th, 2004, 07:21 AM Yeah, the "returnability" of online purchases are a big hassle, but sometimes you can really get a good deal. Just a couple months ago, in fact, I got a DVD collection worth about $800US for $100US + $40 shipping from ebay... great deal. On the other hand, I've been ripped off a couple times... just gotta learn when to hold them and when to fold 'em... er... I mean... gotta be careful to trust and not trust... ;) feedback is usually a good indicator. :D Kara May 29th, 2004, 07:58 AM My new filters arrived today. I bought them off ebay. I was suprised at the quality of them when they arrived as I was told that the filters on ebay that were a cheap price were a cheap make. I took them out today, and have to say Im more than a happy camper... especially for 5 bucks a piece Tim L. Walker May 29th, 2004, 08:25 AM Not bad... not bad at all. So when do we get a look at some of the pictures taken with these new filters? ;) Kara May 29th, 2004, 08:40 AM  I shouldnt have said anything huh Being as Im in the dinosaur age - 5 shots on this roll of film, so.... next week i guess Tim L. Walker May 29th, 2004, 08:45 AM That's cool... no worries. We'll wait. I'm sure it will be worth the wait, anyways. ;) Kara May 29th, 2004, 08:49 AM  DONT HOLD THY BREATH Tim L. Walker May 29th, 2004, 08:50 AM Hehe... I'll look forward to them nonetheless. ;) danheller May 31st, 2004, 08:28 AM drlynn, Manfrotto/Bogen make some pretty nice ones in the $100-120 range Can you pls show me these tripods. Give me links. I am looking for one.. Tim L. Walker May 31st, 2004, 08:32 AM Manfrotto.com (http://www.manfrotto.com) has information on thier tripods and where you can buy them and here's a link to the Manfrotto/Bogen store (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=breadCrumb&A=FetchChildren&Q=&ci=6322&bsi=3) on B&H. Hope that helps. :D Gideon June 7th, 2005, 12:11 AM Bought a Black Vivitar Tripod 2 years ago. It's made from rubber and has a 5 feet height. Tlemetry June 7th, 2005, 01:59 AM I have been researching the tripods also. Read some article that said the heavier the better... Manfrotto keeps coming up whenever a good tripod is mentioned. But I found a review site that said it had plastic clips that break. Is there a certain model I should look for? T mxu_ June 7th, 2005, 04:16 AM get a Benbo trekker, those things are so sweet, you can even use it as a monopod drlynn June 7th, 2005, 07:36 AM I bought a Sunpak for $80 from Wolf Camera, and I really like it. It's a bit heavy, but it holds my heavy camera very still, even when tilted vertical, and the tilt head tilts to the left instead of the right, so that the shutter release is on the top instead of the bottom. kixphotography June 7th, 2005, 10:01 AM I didn't know you could get a bogen for the 120 range. i think that for the money slik makes a decent one. | Sponsored Ads: |
