CanGran May 8th, 2004, 02:07 PM Not that I am ready to do this yet, but how does/would one contact magazine companies, etc to see if they have any need for my photos?
I have read so many bios on some photographers that always seem to state that their photos were featured or shown in one magazine or another - how does this come about? Contests?
Anyone here have any answers for me? Thanks.

Tim L. Walker May 8th, 2004, 07:43 PM As far as magazines and other print media, while I've never done it myself, the best way to find out would be to look for the "credits" page inside the magazine, and contact ther person (they usually give a name and number or at least an email) for each department... Just call them and ask for each magazine you're interested in.
stitchy626 May 9th, 2004, 08:57 PM You are going to have to submit work to the photo editor of the magazine you want to submit work to. It is good to send it to the actual person.. so find out who they are. Go to the link below. That is a good way to start submitting work. also make sure you actually register your pictures with the copyright office before submitting ANYTHING!!

Dephie May 9th, 2004, 11:32 PM Thanks for the link, stitchy... do you have the book? What sort of info is in there that makes it so worth while?
CanGran May 10th, 2004, 02:54 PM Quote:make sure you actually register your pictures with the copyright office before submitting ANYTHING!!
The above quote is very interesting stitchy.
What is the reasoning for registering pictures? Would have no clue as the where to go for copyrighting as I have never heard of this. Is this procedure the same for photographers around the world?
I did check you the link you provided - very interesting. It almost looks like I would prefer to just sell my pictures matted and framed a lot easier. I was lucky at Christmas that I did sell one of them. I got positive feedback from the recipient of that Christmas gift, so I was quite happy with what I had done.

Mickey May 14th, 2004, 11:03 PM i would like to see more on marketing our work ethier in photojournalism, or wild life photg. it would be nice to figure out how to get this done. I have some things here also some landscapes that i would like to sell.
contestguru June 20th, 2004, 12:56 AM My suggestion is to go out and get the book "SELL AND RESELL YOUR PHOTOS by Rohn Engh. It is the BEST book on how to sell your stock photographs. This book got me started in the Stock Photo business ... and Rohn got hundreds of other stock photographers started.
What he gives is a VERY REALISTIC look at the stock photo business. How to set it up. What to say to the editors, how to submit your work and more. If you are wanting to sell your photos to magazines, newspapers and other sources you MUST HAVE this book.
Rohn also has a site http://www.photosource.com/index.php where he has some subscription newsletter and other resources for stock photographers.
There are a few other good books about stock, if anyone is interested I'll look them up.

Tim L. Walker June 20th, 2004, 01:05 AM Thanks for the info, Melanie. :D That link to Rohn's site doesn't seem to work, though... :(
contestguru June 20th, 2004, 01:19 AM Try this ... and I'll see if I can go back and change the defective link????
http://www.photosource.com/index.php
Tim L. Walker June 20th, 2004, 01:25 AM Yeah, much better. :D Works now. :P Looks like a good resourse for stock photographers...
PictureCow July 21st, 2004, 04:37 AM It also helps if you're a writer! Magazines will consider the full meal deal. If you've got a photo essay with decent copy they might be more willing to bite.
Tim L. Walker July 21st, 2004, 06:17 AM And for those of you that aren't good writers, I know there are some good writers here on this forum that will help you out, I'm sure...
