Perhaps a Premature Hello?

This site is an incredible body of knowledge. "Newbie" is not an adequate term for me; my photographic experience only consists of playing with my father's older EOS Elan this summer. I only experimented with composition, b/w, and several of the automatic modes (portrait, etc). It was enough to let me realize I loved it but not enough to make me feel like I learned much at all.

As I had to give that camera back eventually and learn about manual photography, I bought a Pentax P30T from eBay which will be arriving today. I wanted as basic a machine as possible, and this camera comes only with a 50mm lens.

I look forward to growing in this field with the experiences you have had. Have patience with me; I'm new to camera-play but not to forum etiquette.

Other interests or possible photo subjects include cycling (mountain, road, and single-speed mountain) and hiking. I'm a grad student in Virginia and hope to audit a photography course this fall/spring.

It's good to be here, and I apologize for my long-winded intro.

Thanks for the greetings--I did receive the Pentax yesterday and I can only say that things are not made like they once were. This camera is used and somewhat dated as far as I can tell but feels extremely expensive and well-built. I already prefer the feel to the Elan I used this summer.

A sad side-note: I am not in the income tax bracket for ownership of that car yet. My father owned a 1967 Mustang in this color; this is the Roush GT in Legend Lime that he picked up to complete the circle. He deserves it! The clutch is incredibly light and the exhaust tone is perfect. Someday.... :D This picture exists because we had taken a couple of shots with him in front of the car to match a picture he has as a teen (in front of the old Stang, of course). As Murphy would have it, now we can't find those old slides.

Nice... I have a 35th Anniversary convertible, and I'm trying to get a 66 convertible in the near future (just waiting for the wife to get a job so we can move)... love the new models... rented a 2005 GT convertible for the honeymoon last month. ;)
