Wow, great photograph! Excellent colour and focus. What camera and lense did you use for it? How big was this guy? What is it? Where do you live??! ;)

Isn't he cool?

I have a Fuji Finepix S7000.

Turns out, after looking online he is an American alligator.. and apparently could have 35 siblings running around.. !!!! He was only about a foot and a half long, and according to the research I did, means he is not much older than a newborn.

We have a creek running thru the middle of our property - only has a couple of inches of water in it tho.. but we have had a lot of rain and minor flooding of late - I think he was washed downstream. When we found him in the road he was heading away from the creek, so when we let him go (which was after about 3 minutes and the little guy was getting very pissed off with my hubby holding his tail) we put him back in the direction of the creek. He was 'barking' the whole time.. obviously lost. Which is a shame he is lost, but when momma can grow up to 16 feet.. I am almost happy he lost her!!!!

I am in TX.. about 40 miles out of Houston in cowboy country!

Wow! They're big... I think it would scare the crap out of me... hehe. Nicely done, though... great picture. I don't get to see much wildlife except for raccoons here in Toronto... and certainly nothing like that! Must be lots of good photo ops with a creek running through the property... always interesting things coming along to snap pictures of. ;)

Wow... what a cute (but scary!) looking critter! Do you see alligators often? Love the picture btw.

Tim, I have to say, the wildlife on our property is RIFE! We have everything and anything (almost LOL) many different bugs, furry critters, lots of deer..!

Altyfc - first one I have seen! I have only been here 5 years, and we recently moved out of a semi residental area to acreage.. apparently, according to one of my friends here in Houston, there are a LOT around the bayous!!!

We were just coming home when my hubby screeched the truck to a halt, slammed it in reverse.. jumps out of the car like a madman and goes to pounce on this little critter - was very funny to watch!

I think I'd have my foot down on the accelerator rather than the brake. You wouldn't have caught me trying to pick it up! A foot long did you say? That's still a fair size, even for a baby - and it looks like it has a vicious bite!
