What's better for scanning transparencies and slides?

Real new here. Just getting ready to scan a lifetime collection. Do I need a high end unit with special attachments? My Canon Lido 30 w/Scan Gear CS will do 25 - 9600 dpi. It really has been great for photos.

My father just passed and he was a professional nature photographer. I have sold his Maxxum 9000 already and there is more stuff than I can mention here. My first concern is to catalog his massive collection.

And here is a strange question. My father signed his photos with a copyright symbol. Can I use a copy of his signature and copyright sign and put it on prints derived from the negatives that are then sold? Told you I was new to this. :?

I'd sure appreciate any input in this area because I am at a loss for the most part. Thank You.

OK, So I have found out what is considered fraud. No puting my fathers signature on any newly printed pictures. My next concern is about watermarks to protect (somwewhat) from on line thievery. I have developed one from a piece of clipart. Does it need to be copyrighted? What do I need to do copyright any more of the photos?

This is the second forum I have tried and both have received no responses. Is there another forum that is more active?

Sorry. Your question is kind of odd. Im not even sure how you go about selling other peoples work.

This is probably one of the more active photography forums on the net... just like Kara said, it's a bit of an odd question. So you're looking to scan in a large amount of photographs, add a copyright to them, and have copies printed to resell them?

My father passed away and had been selling photos for years. Now my mother and I have his collection and would like to carry on. I don't know what I need to do to protect his legacy and continue sales. Are there guidelines anywhere that could help me?

I would talk to an attorney about it, someone who specializes in photography sales and copyrights. If your father had an attorney draft a will, start with him. But this sounds like a legal issue more than anything.

in terms of legally doing what you want, and i am no lawyer, contact one and ask, one who specializes in copyright. according to copyright.gov, one's copyright (registered or not) will live for 75 years past the persons death. your father must have given written permission (from my understanding, again, im no attorney) or your mother must have control of the estate
