Promotion of Photography Businessjrpublicity May 14th, 2004, 09:22 AM Does anyone in the photography business need any advice on marketing their services to a larger, more diverse clientele? Jenna Tim L. Walker May 14th, 2004, 09:38 AM Almost everyone always needs advice... you willing to share some with all of us? jrpublicity May 14th, 2004, 10:03 PM Certainly. There are numerous ways one would use to market photographers and their work. Methods would differ depending on the type of photography and their work. Ex. a wedding photographer would want to market themselves in a much different way than a photographer who tries to sell his or her work as art. Both need marketing, but the tools and methods are different. Jenna Tim L. Walker May 14th, 2004, 10:08 PM Right, good point. I guess the main difference is that an event photographer would more want to market themselves as opposed to their work, where as a photographic artist would want to showcase their work over themself, right? Mickey May 14th, 2004, 10:47 PM how abotu someone that is trying to get in to the bis. as a fineart/landscape/wildlife photog. any ideas i have a bunch of diffrent things nothing for wedding but alot of other things and would really like to start selling some of it . or even going on assiments for someone . I will be going to Germany here in a few months and will have stuff from there also Tim L. Walker May 14th, 2004, 11:40 PM What type of photos are you looking to sell? What format - framed, prints, stock photos? Mickey May 15th, 2004, 12:42 AM right now i have some that are stock nothing framed could be rather easily. right now all but one that i have is 35MM i have the one the won the photo contest as a hassy image on a med. format neg the rest oare of 35MM B&W and Color and digital for the more recent stuff, exampels are like the bird, i have soome of a C-130 plane on landing, i have lots of abandon buildings, things that were lost intime (this is a series that i started to help me learn) but other then that i can shoot anythign for the most part as long as i can shoot it with a hot shoe flash or natural light i do not have a portabel light kit to carry around. Mickey May 15th, 2004, 12:44 AM oh and i do have a real true life gohst shot but no model release for that one . kind of hard to get one from them  jrpublicity May 16th, 2004, 08:34 AM Mickey, Just so I get this straight all of the work you would like to make your living from will be artistic in nature vs. commercial in nature? I understand two of your areas....just that technically you could take landscape photos for landscape companies for their portfolios. I'd be happy to give you some advice as soon as you clarify that point. Jenna Mickey May 16th, 2004, 04:22 PM i would not mind shooting anytype of phtog. just seems that is the way it is going i am still relatively new at this for a way to make my living, Now at the same time i am not aposed to shooting art or comercial i have shot one that was published in a college welcome book but i had done it when i worked for the person who tought me some of what i know and i donot have rights to it (according to him) and i have never recived the tear sheet from it so i really cant claim it as mine to eaisly as it gave credit to the studio not me .I guess i had to pay my dues somehow just wish i would have knowen that at the time i would have never shot the photo, but as far as comercial i would not mind shooting things for advertisesment. right now i have nothing set in stone i do the landscape stuff and wild life stuff as a hobby but was shooting prtrate work for a livign for the past two years or more. so i know how to do it i just at thistime dont have a light kit i do have the background and some other things needed right now the light kit and pepole are the two biggest peices of that puzzel not there. Alos im goign to be leaving the country here in a few months for at least 5 years if not longer due to the wifes job were going to be in Germany s i would need something that can travel also | Sponsored Ads: |
