Portrait Proofs

What is a proof?
For weddings I have done in the past 30 years (as a hobbist) they were provided 50-70 prints 4 X 6 in a wedding album. Now I wonder if portraits of family and pets should have proofs of paper from an inkjet, wet chemistry economy print or something else. I want to provide a good impression without hurting my sales of the package and reprints. What is the profession’s opinion on this? Some proofs my brother got were marked “computer generated proofs.....” with the word “proof” on the picture.

Larry,

Proofs are first run prints that have not been color corrected.

I suggest that you provide "originals" to your client for viewing purposes. Don't even use the word proof. Pay the extra money to have each image analyzed and color corrected when they are first printed. And refer to them as originals. Proofs are not thought to be of any value. Originals on the other hand have more value since they have been individually analyzed and color corrected.

Best Wishes :D
