From a visual standpoint, the colors are vibrant (and work together in a wonderul way and the images are wonderfully crisp.

Really? Wow... I initially thought that's what you meant, but figured that shot would be too difficult to do hand held. LOL. Excellent job. How do you find the 5700? I was actually thinking of getting one myself...

Thank you, I was pleasantly surprised myself that it came out without too much camera shake; I braced my elbows on a deck railing which did the trick. I love the camera; my only real complaint is that I have a few “hot” pixels which can be easily fixed in PS. It is my 1st camera which I bought a year ago or so & now there are so many better cameras out there!!

I know! This industry is taking off so fast it's hard to keep up. As soon as you buy a new digital camera, 2 weeks later, there are half a dozen nicer ones. ;)

Mickey,
Nice shot, the DOF is perfect. I love Bumble Bees because they are so slow to move, makes them a nice subject to photograph.

I've never tried photographing bumble bees... I'll have to give it a try sometime this summer if I come across one...

I think Buzz 2 frame.jpg looks really really good. But the frame? I'm not so sure if you need one. Some other picture you took, marine? That one also had frame ..., to be honest, it looks like, you just cut and paste from somewhere, and ... I don't know, I really think it looks better without it. Just my opinion though.

:D I see your point about the frame… I guess to me it just looks like it is unfinished without one.

try thi some time, instead of a fram make another layer and add a droped shadow to it. some times they dont need the full fram or the other thing to try is to make the fram color the same as something in the photo other then the black and white that seem to be common. just a thought .

Good idea, Mickey... a small drop shadow usually works in place of a frame any day. :)

i have seen the frame almost over done
sometimes but i have to say that it is all in the eye of the beholder. Most pepole will look at the same print in six frames and each time will think it is a diffrent photo due to them just not knowing anydiffrent. the fram can make or break a photo.

:?: Please forgive my ignorance; but what is a drop shadow & how is it done?

Mickey
May 16th, 2004, 06:54 PM
it is done in layers under layerproperties on photo shop. as far as anyother programs im not sure how it is done,

it is where they put a shadow under the corner of the photo and a belved edge can also be added i will post a ex. of one for you in a few min's let me do one reall fast for ya

drop shadow effect this is not a great one but it shows you what I'm talking about also not are they always done in color some with just a Grey or black color look real nice to.

how to
this is a basic effect that you can do if you know how to work with layers (this should be the first thing you do with any photo)
1.open a image and crop and correct color. minimize the photo

2. open a new pallet in p/s. and make it the size of the final print IE> 8x10 etc..

3. take the first photo and drag it to the new pallet. by using the pointer tool.

4. use the free transform selection in the edit drop menu.

5. transform the size for the first to the size that you want it so that you have a border around the first photo (in this case the background is white, the first photo is of the lizard.

6. this should make a new layer also when you drag it on top of the other one. right click on you mouse on top of the new layer.

7. got to Blending options

8.Goto the left side of the frame that comes up and look on the list for drop shadow.

9. check it and adjust the angel there

10. now you will notice a small circle that has came up on that layer also
double click on that this has a f in it and is in the layer pallet

11. this will open More adjustments up for you make sure previewer is checked and stat to adjust the shadow so that it is to you liking.

you have made a drop shadow now close the info box.

merger visible layers and your done

this might not be a real good explanition . but if you have any questions just ask i will do my best for you .

but this will do the trick and as with anything in photo shope there are 300 ways to do it but this is the one that works good for me. seems straight forward and easy to learn.

good luck

anytime , if you are working with it at work it is a good idea to get it for home you would besuprised how many hours i have here inthis seat forjust messing around with p/s and it really shows alot in some of the stuff i did in the beginning compared to what i can now. when i first strated out i had no idea what a layer was or how to use them now it is the only way but i had alot of ruined photos that i had to rescan to get them back. also if you got out and look at some of the links that are out here on the borad for p/s you can read and learn alot that way to . good luck
