Ok, another one I took of my (lazy) Tom cat. I liked the way this one came out. I've ben trying to get him to go to sleep on my chair, that's not near as dark as the couch, but no luck yet lol.

Other then the croping I didn't do anything to the picture.
*I did have two other on here, but I took them off

Unfortunately the subject in this photo lacks interest. The couch is distracting and the cat's head is almost gone. It is a treasured snap for the cat's owner, otherwise I would scrap this idea and compose it some place else or when the subject is a bit more interesting.

Thanks for the comments Cleo. I wasn't really planing on doing anything with this, I was just goofing off and liked the way this one came out. Compared to the one I took earlier (under I just found this site) it came out pretty good. Right now I am trying to get a little feedback on how well they come out, as in how good or bad the focus is; how well I did keeping it from blurring...etc. I'm planing on trying to get some good outdoor ones taken this weekend.
Thanks again

@Cleo - i must agree with every word..
Emotive snapshot are a problem and i see a lot of them in many boards ..(childrens and fiancee inclued) ...
They say much to one who take them, but it is hard for him to separete his emotions from the clear view of a photo critic, who should only see lines, composition, colors, proportions.
One thinks it is good becuse it evokes emotions in him, but fails to see that those emotions are evoked by the subject and not by the photo ITSELF.
@wandat - if you ask, the focus is bad, especially on the left bottom side,
Are you using manuall focus or auto ?
pet's hair is not easy to auto.
the exposure is lacking a bit , and i would say also the lighting could be much better.
i think that a good way to judge a photo like that is to take another one, exactly the same - same cropping, same lightingand if possiable, same composition,, of a dull object, like a book, or a diskete , or something, and than look if it is still appealing to you when you eliminate the emotive subject...

Other than the fact that you've already stated, Wandat regarding the colour of the sofa not drawing out the subject enough, I think it's a pretty good image of your cat. Flash would probably be too much in this because of the light fur, unless the tiniest touch of fill flash was used. Pets, children family are all emotive subjects but usually ones that others can relate to in some way as well. Get the cat to move to a lighter background and you got yourself a winner!
