Tim, a strange suggestion

I have a suggestion that probably doesn't warrent implementing immediatly, but I'll put it out here so you can think on it.

I know we have minors on this board. Or if we don't, we are sure to, at some point. Anyway....

Can you do "private forums"? I'm thinking a private forum, access granted only to those who are of age, for posting nudes, or any other questionable material in.

It's just a thought I wanted to toss out there.

yeah i was thinking the same thing... i dont think alot more pictures like those posted (innocently) would be that great for young ones to stumble across, i know i sound like a grump... but being a father changes you and makes you think a bit differently...

it would actually be nice to have a invites only forum for a select few (not saying me btw) or maybe a medal winners forum.... just throwing a few ideas around here

nudist photos are part of photography and i have NO problem at all with it.... just little eyes and all that jazz...

Hmmm. I thought about that, but then how would I moderate who gets in or not? Just have people ask, or maybe put something in the announcements?

but i do think the site would benifit from having a private forum, mainly willing people to want to post and become eligable to be allowed into the private forum??

i dont know either im just babbling.... this is one if not hte best photography forum and community i have come across on the net... frendly and welcoming wise... so many forums get petty and it ruins it... i like it here....

List it in it's own catagory, and make it a subforum Tim. Then people will know it's there. In the forum description, I'd just put- "You must be 18 years or older to access this forum, please PM admin for details"

And leave it at that. There is no way to really PROVE how old anyone is on the net. They could be 12 and say "yeah, I'm 18" but, it's a CYA type of thing for you, kwim?

We use private areas on another forum for our club members, they can post club info and debate issues without involving the general membership.

OK, I've got it done... I know there are a couple more "mature content" threads on this forum... if you find them, PM me the URL, and I'll move them to the private forum. If you'd like access, click on Usergroups in the top menu, and request to join the forum. :D Should I post something up somewhere about it now (as it's a private forum)?

Tim, is there no way to make the catagory visable to all members, but the forum inside the catagory locked to people who are not in that usergroup?

Reason I ask is, then you wouldn't have to "announce" it per se, but rather, it's there, and you can put the description of how to join that forum in the forum description, does that make any sense? I'm not familier with this boards software though. I know a little more about VBullitin than this one. :lol:

You could set up a new group via "the admin panel" then have the board visible but only open to that group.. Not so sure this will work now...

Agree with the availability of the private forum for the same reasons already stated.

OK, I've got it set up... I tried earlier what you suggested, Natasha, but if I leave the forum viewable, then the posts are viewable, which kinda defeats the purpose of it... I'm getting the guys @ phpbb to take a look for me, though. ;) Let me know if you figure out anything. :P

So, how do you gain access to this new area?

click on Usergroups in the top menu, and select the Adult Corner (the only usergroup there currently), and then click on the join button (or something like that). ;) I'll approve them as the requests come in. :D

OK, I got it. :D Yay. :D Now people can see the forum is there, but you can't see it unless you're a member of the Adult Corner group. :D

Hehe... it's hard because I have to switch to another account that's not the admin to see what effect the changes had... but we got it. :D Now, on what basis should I accept/deny applicants for the forum, if any?

maybe if they have less than 10 posts or just seem like a kid?? its hard with internet age.....

what do you think about a medal winners forum.... i think it would encourage people to post more photographs...and would be a kind of reward for winners

Yeah, I've been sitting on that idea for a while... I think I want the forum to grow a bit more before I impliment something like that... or too many of the posts will be in the "hidden" forums. ;)
