I find the EXIF info can be useful like the article states. Sometimes by reading that I can where I went wrong with the camera settings..

Indeed, but it is also an ideal place to store the catalogue, keywords and comments of the photo.
These fields are standard not visible, but using XP, you can access these fields by a right-mouse-click and selec properties of the jpg file and select summary. Select the advanced and You will view the camera settings. :D
If you add your catalogue data, then there is a warning :!: If your camera generates the Exif data in motorola format, then XP converts it to the Intel format. Not all exif programs can handle both formats. :roll:

PhotoManager uses the XP-exif-data fields to store the catalogue data. The big advantage is that no database is needed to store the catalogue data and no background program is running to update the this database.(don't slows down your PC :D ) Also you can manage the Exif data block by split-of before going to your favorite editir and join the exif data after editing.
The exif data also holds a thumbnail, that can be used to get fast view access, e.g. for a cursor monitor.

:idea: PhotoManager has also a lot of editing functions, a unique batch renamer (drag and drop, real time rename) and facilitates the catalogue editing. :roll:

I'd like to note in here that using some data recovery tools WILL strip your photos of all EXIF data.

Yes, indeed... for film camera users, you have the good ol' pen and paper exif generator. :P
