A question about selling on consignment

If someone offers to show a print for sale on consignment, is 30% of the sales price about right for their cut? Low? High? Any input from your experience is appreciated.

It really depends on where. What exposure are you getting, do you get to put business cards up as well? 30% sounds about right to me, though.

Thanks for the reply, Tim. I haven't left any cards, but my name is HUGE on the print. It's a 20x30, and when I was adding my signature, it sure looked small!

It's my first "art" type of photography, and everyone who has seen this particular print is quite taken with it. I think the owner offered to buy it outright when we were discussing it, but I was so nervous, I missed it, and jumped right into the consignment negotiations. I'm looking at it as a learning experience and some exposure for this sort of photography for me.
