Backup?

I am thinking about buying a backup camera. I am going to sell my two Nikons and purchase either another 10D or a 20D. I was wondering if anyone had any advice or any tips to give me.

I don't have any tips. What type of Nikons are you selling? I want a back up Nikon.

Why not get the D2X or D70 if you already have Nikon gear?

The advantage of the 20D over the 10D, to me, is the new flash system. With the new 580EX flash, the 20D is seriously cool. The 580 compensates for the size of the 20D's CMOS sensor automatically, zooms in to match the effective focal length of the lens for the sensor. Also automatically judges subject distance and other data to modify the flash output.

A 20D, one 580 and 2 420's plus stands, and you've got a great little portable studio, all wireless.

You can also do this with the SB800 system.

I agree with drlynn. I'd consider a 20D and make the 10D your backup camera. That is, unless you can justify a 1D

I did a little looking, and this is what I came up with all are brand new from Amazon, body only.

10D - 6.3 megapixels - $1,399.99US
20D - 8.2 megapixels - $1,399.94US
1D - 8.2 megapixels - $3,999.99US
1DS - 16.7 megapixels - $7,999.99US

Now, considering I don't have a flash yet, I absolutely hate them, but I guess they are mandatory. A 580 is roughly $399US and the 420 is roughly $180US. The three flashes will be $760US. I was originally thinking about a Metz, this one http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?A=details&kw=ME70MZ5&is=REG&Q=&O=productlist&sku=218918
which is around the same as the 3 other fashes combined. Anyone care to throw in their 2 cents on this?

Old. ;) A N8008 & a digital point and shoot.

unless you can justify a 1D

LOL, I doubt the above will fetch me that much ;)

Truly I am leaning toward a 20D, but if I wait another year, work really hard, save my pennies & eat less I may be able to swing a 1D. Will the madness ever stop?!!

I'm not going to say that one brand of camera is more superior than the other and all that other jazz, but why change brands if you already have lenses for Nikon?

Oh! I'm not changing brands. I have both. I started out with a Canon A1, then the Nikon was thrown into the mix, then a pocket Canon, a Rebel, a Nikon Digital, then the Canon 10D. At this point I had to choose, and since I actually still use my A1 & the Rebel is like new, it was a no brainer. I was disappointed when I realized that all of my Canon lenses aren't compaitable, but I have an arsenal of Canon stuff. I am like a walking, talking billboard for Canon. Makes me ill.

Another one to think about is the new digital Rebel..the 350....it should run $899 for the body and has 8.2 mpix

Hi Cleo I looked at buying a Metz (ebay - can't remember the model now) for my 10D but there was a compatibility problem and the Metz site did not recommend this model.
