Hi there

I'm looking in to getting a wirless transmitter that allows me to use my sb-600 wirlessly with my Nikon D50. I'm at this time using my sc-17 sync cord and I'm looking for some thing that allows me to use my flash across the room. I have been looking for some time and have come across 4 options. I would like to know from anybody how any of these work? I maybe to picky.

I have list of these transmitters with pros and cons that may be helpful or a pain

(1)Nikon Su-4 Wireless Slave Flash Controller
http://www.nikonusa.com/images/products/3073_180.jpg

pros) I have just found this flash controller last night and looks like it would work. I like the fact that this is made by the same brand as my camera so its probly compatible. This is also in my price range. The on board flash is used at the same time that would help for more lighting. 20 foot range. I think it supports TTL.

cons) some of the problems I have with this setup is it only allows the off camera flash to work when the on camera flash is used at the same time like a slave flash. This also only allows me to use only one flash wirelessly, that is ok for now but I may get more speedlights in the future. This also has a defuser for the onboard flash that is a little large and could be a pain. The on camera flash is more light but I would also like to use a the sb-600 alone to acheive a different look.

I found this through ebay and have asked and they said it would work with my camera.

(2)Digital Wireless 4-Channel Slave Strobe & Flash Trigger
http://www.qiqiwocamera.com/camera/rf-6046.jpg

pros) this also will allow me to use my flash off camera and allows me to get my flash farther away up to 100 foot range. This also lets me use more flashes with more recievers sold seperate. I also don't have to use my on camera flash to fire my sb-600 and the trigger is more sleek than the flash deffuser for the Su-4.

cons) This setup is made by a brand I have never heard of and can't find any other things about the company or iteams they sell on the internet. I'm also not sure if it will work for my camera but I could give it a try. I can't use my on camera flash. This also does not support TTL so I can only use this in manual mode on my sb-600, I already use my manual mode alot any way

3)su-800 or a pocket wizard

(pros) I know either one of these setups would work. the su-800 is made just for this and is a for sure things. The pocket wizard as far as I know would work fine. I know the su-800 would support TTL not sure about the wizard but probly would.

cons)very $$$ and at this time I can't put up that much money. and eaiter one does not allow the on camera flash to work at the same time.

HI there

I have found a new site that seems to have a little more info and looks more trust worthy. I have been thinking of going with the qiqiwo but their site seems a little fishy then I came across www.gadgetinfinity.com they seem to have it a little more together and seem to have about the same product but it have been inproved. I know its a gamble but for $29 as long as it doesn't hurt my camera or flash I will give it a shot.

ALl i can say Is if you want wuality and reliability POCKET WIZARDS are the way to go. 100% reliable, they never fail, ALWYAS get the job done. They have a range of 1600 feet. More than enough. Whats really awsome about them though is that you can use them also to trigger a slave camera.

HI there just got my new wirless flash trigger and I'm very happy with this little guy even allows you to shoot fast than 1/500 up to 1/640 even faster than the su-800 but does not allow TTL but for the price very cool also has a range of 100 feet more than I need plus with more receivers I can use many different make and model of flashes to fire at one time and for only $30 for the transmitter and reciever and $14 for extra recievers. I will be using it for studio shots.

I am using a couple of Gadget Infinity triggers, when the Nikon CLS wouldn't work. It is fairly reliable, except when I'm shooting with anything more than a 135mm lens (20-30m). At that distance the hit rate is halved. If you shoot weddings, don't think too much, get the Pocket Wizard or wait for the RadioPopper. The latter will be able to transmit the TTL signals as well...

You can find a lot of info on the http://www.strobist.blogspot.com/ about wireless flash.

The Pocket wizards will only trigger the SB600. Skip the SU-4. The SU-800 will remotely control the SB600 and allow it to shoot, however, an SB800 will allow you a second more powerful flash if needed and has the capability of controlling the SB600 even is the SB800 is set not to fire itself. Just remember that it is line of sight and the SB600 has to see the SU-800 or the SB-800.

I am aware that the Pocket Wizards will trigger any flash, but I was referring just to the SB600 that is being discussed in this thread. I could have said that the Pocket Wizard will trigger the flash, but I chose to use SB600 instead.
