1) Springtime Stats

A lot of people have commented that the site seems "a little slower" as of late. Over the past 3 years, it's become a trend that traffic around the Corner drops a little bit during the spring and summer months (I guess people are getting out of the house and actually taking some photographs or something silly). ;) Not to fear, loyal Cornerites. It probably also seems a little slower than normal because of the HUGE surge of traffic we received during the PhotographyCorner 2006 Photograph of the Year contest. Part of the apparent traffic drop-off is because we no longer have the Photo Sharing Corner, but instead we implemented the Corner Photo Galleries. But what we need to do, is continue to treat the Corner Photo Galleries like we did the Photo Sharing Corner. People are posting up more photographs than ever (we're almost at 10,000 photographs uploaded to the galleries already), but not near as many people are commenting on the photos uploaded there. So get in the galleries and comment on the photographs in there!! The best way to do it, is to go to the galleries main page ( http://www.photographycorner.com/galleries ), then click on a date on the calendar (on the left-hand side). This will show you all the photos that were uploaded that day. Then browse through the photos and comment on them. It's as easy as that! Now let's get those comments going! There should be WAY more comments than photos in there. Let's make it happen!

2) Sponsor: AuctionAds

AuctionAds isn't really a sponsor, nor are they really an advertiser, but they do have ads that are now appearing on the site. For more information on what AuctionAds actually are, check out this blog post: http://www.photographycorner.com/blog/2007/05/auctionads Basically, they are ads that link to live eBay auctions and I have them set up to show photography-related ads only. When you click on a listing, if you end up bidding and winning the auction, a small percentage of the sale goes to the Corner. A pretty cool way for everyone to find some good deals on eBay, and a good way to support the Corner as well. Also, if you don’t have an eBay account, the Corner gets some $ for you just creating an account! So if you don’t have an account, help the Corner out a little bit and create an eBay account right now by clicking on this great big long link (you may have to cut and paste it into your browser if your email client cuts it all up): http://ads.auctionads.com/pagead/link_9f81cc9cd14ae01d69f0_b0dca8b07ce8e25d314bc093 7f51bb7d_https%3A//scgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll%3FRegisterEnterInfo

3) Blog Stuff

So, you keep hearing about this blog thing. You've probably even checked it out (you have checked it out, right?). In case you have no idea what I'm talking about, go check out the PhotographyCorner Blog: http://www.photographycorner.com/blog Now, there are a couple of options on what you can do with the blog. Read it, of course, but how? You can just browse to it every day to see what's going on, but that's kind of a pain. There IS a better way. You can SUBSCRIBE to the blog and get it delivered to your inbox, or your RSS Reader (sometimes also called a News Aggregator). If you want all the PhotographyCorner Blog posts delivered to your email, it's really easy. Click on this link (link: http://www.feedburner.com/fb/a/emailverifySubmit?feedId=613064 ), enter your email address, and you're set. If you use an RSS reader, click on this link (link: http://feeds.feedburner.com/photographycornerblog ), select your reader from the list, and you're set. If you want to start using an RSS Reader, but don't know where to start, check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rss_reader and http://www.google.com/reader for more information to get you started. If you're having difficulty getting it set up and started, just send me a PM, and I'll give you a hand. ;)

4) Contest Updates

If you haven't been keeping up with what's going on in the contests, really, the best way is, of course, by subscribing to the Photography Corner Blog (see above). If, for whatever reason, you can't seem to get yourself to go to the blog, here's a brief update about what you've been missing. Firstly, ZHeng (aka Gavin) won the May 2007 Photograph of the Month contest with his amazing photograph called "Fetch" featuring a small boy playing fetch with his dog on a beach. Congrats on your SECOND PotM win, Gavin (especially awesome considering he's still in high school... at least for a couple more months). DDAY (aka Dan) won his first Contest Corner Challenge, winning CCC#32: Look Up... Look Way, Way Up with a landslide victory, capturing over 50% of the votes. While this was Dan's first CCC win, it's not the first time he's captured a PhotographyCorner award. This CCC award accompanies his 2 PotM wins, and his second place finish the 2006 Photograph of the Year contest. Way to go, Dan!! And last, but not least, CCC#33 has been announced, and you've got no excuse not to enter. It's called "May Flowers" and all you have to do is photograph two or more flowers. Entries are due in my midnight on Monday, May 28th, 2007. That gives you almost 2 weeks to get your photos in. Prizes include CASH(!), and all the details can be found here: http://www.photographycorner.com/forum/showthread.php?t=59059

6) Growing the Corner

Well, we're getting to the end of the newsletter. But don't worry, there'll be another one next month right around this time again. As always, I welcome your feedback on the newsletter... just email me or pm me. I love feedback (especially good feedback!). ;) If you want to see the Corner keep growing and prospering, we need that good feedback. We also need you to tell people - friends, family, co-workers, fellow photographers - about the Corner. Put a link up to the Corner on your own website (we even have banners you can use: http://www.photographycorner.com/banners ). Just tell people and get them here - that's the best way to help grow the Corner. Let's make this place a bigger, happier family.

Oh, and go take some photographs, eh?

See you around the Corner,
Tim L. Walker
