I'm starting up my own website to sell photography. I'm trying to find out about copyrighting my work. I've heard once that picture is taken it is copyrighted to a certain degree, but I need more knowlege. Thanks.

As soon as you take the picture, you own the copyright. But if you want more protection you should register the pictures. I think you can register as many pictures as you want at once with one fee, something like $35us. You just mail the cd's to the copyright office. I dont have the url memorized.

Also name your pictures so you can do a search through google or something to find whats out there. Some people are so lazy they dont bother to change the file name after stealing your image. If you register the pictures and find somone stealing your picture, you can take them to court and get a nice payment for using your image and they cover the court fee's, I believe. If it wasnt registered, youd have a harder time to prove its yours and I think you have to pay your own court fee's.
