Flash, flash, flash!

My weakness is the "flash". I need to get one, even though I really want another lens instead of a flash :D

I need a bit of help. I remember someone mentioning getting 2 420's & 1 580 and that would be a total wireless setup. The question I have is how? What would I need to buy, besides the obvious, to acheive this? I shoot with a Canon 10D and have a 20D on the way. AND (how crazy is this) I love the 10D so much that the 20D will be a backup! (Well at least I think so right now, lol).

So all you flash experts help me out. I am very thankful for any info anyone can provide.

PS I worked all day and decided that dogs are worse to shoot than kids.

With the 580 acting as the master, the 420's will fire as slaves. I don't think you need anything else other than stands.

I'm waiting to hear if you rearrange your thoughts once the 20D is in your hands and the 10D becomes the backup. I've thought about a 20D to be a 2nd camera, but I really really REALLY want a 1D Mk II.

Me too!!!! But I need a backup and cannot, no way, swing a 1D.

Thanks for the info.

BTW, do you think a setup like this is worth it?

Guess it depends on the type of work you're doing. I don't have a need for that type setup, but then I don't do any studio style work. Can't offer much as I am not all that familiar with studio lighting options.

Why not save some money, get a Rebel for a backup and put the other money towards some portable flash units and stands? And a Sektronic pocket wizard to make it all wireless.

Cleo, the February 2005 issue of Popular Photography had a pretty interesting article on this very subject:

Link (http://www.popphoto.com/article.asp?section_id=3&article_id=1283&page_number=1)

You can download the article as a pdf, including all the diagrams, etc.

Hope that helps. ;)
