Need opinion on tamron lens

I am looking for a good carry-around lens.. Any alternate suggestions / opinions?

Most of those all-in-one carry around lenses get pretty bad reviews. I guess it depends on what you're wanting to do.

I have seriously considered getting one to take on vacation, etc when I just am taking family snaps, but I don't think you'd want to use it for portraits, etc.
