Was goofing underwater off and took this self portrait. Thought it was kind of neat the way the eyes came out black. Would like some opinions please. Thanks

God, that is scary. Nice work. There are five purple dots on the left eye that I cannot figure out. I wonder if it would be better to see the pupils or not.

Good eye Cleo! The dots are poor post work here at home using a basic Adobe program on a slow computer. I typically use only my computer at work (CS) so I didn't take the time to do it properly. Next time I'll try to get the pupils and see.

I thought maybe you would say something freaky like those sea slugs were sucking on the glass or something (forgive me, I have a very vivid immagination tonight). :D

Sorry...I just read the thread about you peeing in the big pool and can't help but laugh at this pic now.

I like it. Looks like it could be a DVD cover for a scarry underwater movie...

Cool pic. I can't even tell that it's an underwater shot. Kind of hints of Battlestar Galactica. You take it with the Nikonos?

And our collective geek natures starts rearing it's head. I was actually thinking fighter pilot, but it hints of a paintball player as well. It's always a good thing when a picture sparks people's imaginations this much.

Ahahahaha. I read that too and had forgotten until I read this.

35mm lens & 1:3 extension tube.

What exactly is an extension tube? The reason I ask (and I apologize in advance if this becomes a thread jack but it's your photo and gear that I am questioning...plus I am going to comment on the photo at the end....:).)...is because I was at a camera shop this weekend and the salesman mounted a thing between my camera and 70-300mm lens to show me. I think that is what he called it but I was looking at it for possibly increasing the range of my telephoto without having to buy a bigger lens. I like my new 70-300mm but I am still very limited to what I want to use it for. He said that the downfall to the extension thingy was that the lowest aperture you can get with it is F8. I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

I like this picture too. It does look like a cool photo for the front of a scary underwater dvd too. It doesn't look like it's underwater to me either but is that a flash that is getting the color in it around your face?

Yes, underwater you must have a flash to get light. Even with the most powerful you can only get light to punch through 6 -8 feet of water. Without artificial light the color red diasappears at 30 feet deep and other colors will disappear in order of the color spectrum the deeper you go.
Extension tubes are just like the teleconverter you were talking about.

Thanks Ed's Boy. I guess since I am interested in one day hoping to dive...it's nice to hear some stuff about underwater photography. I think it's time to take another visit to Olympus Dive Center. ;). Thanks for the info!
