lizardlady April 14th, 2005, 02:00 AM I would like to get everyone's opinion on my next camera purchase. I am considering the Canon Rebel 300D or the Nikon D70. A little different in price but I hear the Canon has better picture quality. I am really looking for a camera capable of taking multiple shots at once (digital). I need to be able to get good sports action shots, so if my choices are a bad idea please suggest some new ones! :D Thanks all!!! I am itchin' to buy a new camera and I want to make sure I make the right purchase!!!
ohenry April 14th, 2005, 02:05 AM Multiple shots at once? As in double exposures? None of the digital cameras will do that.
Before I suggest a camera, what budget do you want to stay under?
Between the D70 and the 300D, I think the D70 is a better camera, but if you look at the Canon 20D, I'd consider that over the D70.
Bottom line is which system do you want to go with? If you already have lenses, that might sway you one way or the other. The camera body is just one portion of the total system you need to consider. Lenses, flashes, etc will be your major purchases over the years. Once you have a system, upgrading a camera body is a simple solution to changing technology.
lizardlady April 14th, 2005, 02:28 AM Digital slr's is ideally what I am looking for. I would like to stay around $1000.00. system doesn't matter, which is better for a amatuer photographer becoming more serious about this.
ohenry April 14th, 2005, 02:49 AM I think either Canon or Nikon would fit the bill. I would suggest you look at the Canon Rebel XT (350) rather than the original 300. The Nikon D70 is also a fine camera. You can grow with either camera.
The732 April 14th, 2005, 03:37 AM I think the D70 is a better camera
:!: I think you should go to best buy, the one in my town has them on display and you can pick them up and get a feel for which one you like best. If you want, you can google the cameras and spend time going thru reviews and the +/- of each camera and decide that way. I already had nikon lenses, so that is the major reason I went with the Nikon D70, but if I had not had nikon in the past I am not sure which I would have chosen. Take your time choosing a camera because it will be a major investment with lenses and flashes down the road.
ohenry April 14th, 2005, 03:48 AM Nice of you to take my quote out of context.

lizardlady April 14th, 2005, 05:09 AM Thank you for your input. Why do you recommend the Canon XT (350) over the 300?
GerryDavid April 14th, 2005, 05:09 AM Well if you want lots of pics in a row, I think the Canon 1Ds is the best for that, or was it the Mark II? But its a bit over $1000.
You may want to check out the Canon 20d, it will cost you more than the 350d but I think its double the frames per second. Im not sure how nikon's stuff compares.
If you want alot of frames per second, you may want to look into getting a good film body with a motor drive and a negative scanner, you can get aloooooot more fps with film than digital at this point. Im not sure how much these bodies go for.
The732 April 14th, 2005, 05:28 AM I think that the Nikon D70 has 3fps up to a certain amount.
GerryDavid April 14th, 2005, 05:46 AM Canon 300d - 2.5fps for 4frames
Canon 350d - 2.8fps for 14 frames
Canon 10d - 3fps for 9 frames
Canon 20d - 5fps for 23 frames
Canon 1d - 8fps for 21 frames
Canon 1ds - 3fps for 10 frames
Canon 1d mark II - 8.5fps for 40 frames
Canon 1ds mark II - 4fps for 32 frames
Nikon D70 - 3fps for 12 frames
Nikon D2Hs - 8fps for 50 frames
Nikon D2X - 5fps for 12 frames @ max mp
Nikon D2H - 8fps for 40 frames
Nikon D100 - 3fps for 6 frames
Nikon D1X - 3fps for 9 frames
Nikon D1H - 5fps for 40 frames
Nikon D1 - 4.5fps for 21 frames
Fuji S3 Pro - unknown
Fuji S2 Pro - 2fps for 7 frames
Fuji S1 Pro - 1.5fps for 5 frames
The winner is Canon 1d mark II
But you can probably pick up an older nikon that goes pretty fast for alot less money.

A.J.Reams April 14th, 2005, 10:38 PM gerry, i think that's a bit out of her camera price range - the canon you suggested is $4,000 +
But it's a damn fine camera that I can only dream of owning.
GerryDavid April 14th, 2005, 11:06 PM I know its out of the price range, I was just showing the cameras from the top 3 brands.
I dont know how the nikons are priced, but an older model maybe the way to go since the price would have dropped.
I still think film is the way to go if fps are very important, hehe.
lizardlady April 15th, 2005, 12:11 AM thank you for all your input everyone. I am really starting to lean towards the canon rebel xt. More in my price range to start out!!! Gerry that canon that you recommended to me was very nice just a dream right now though! Thanks again, I am going to best buy tonight to play with the display models!!
GerryDavid April 15th, 2005, 12:24 AM lizard, I may have a way to save 20% at bestbuy, well you get a 20% credit for future purchases, Ill know more in a week hopefully. This could give you $180 or more back from the camera that you can use on the battery grip and stuff. Im not sure if best buy sells lenses and if they do if they got a good selection.
A.J.Reams April 15th, 2005, 03:03 AM Oh, I love playing with the displays at bestbuy. My family always knows where to find me.
Gerry, I think they do sell lenses but I'm not sure about the selection.
GerryDavid April 15th, 2005, 03:05 AM Perhaps they can special order the lenses. At 20% back in the form of a gift certificate, could be a good deal. I gotta wait until Monday before I can get more details on the card to save 20%. I hate waiting. :0)
