Shopping Cart

Hey everyone.

I am trying to set up a website, have no idea how to, and the questions I have, no one so far has given me a direct and helpful answer, including smugmug, so I'm gunna try here as well.

The pro smugmug account is the exact thing I am looking for, because of its ability to create password protected galleries for clients, and for them to be able to order them through the shopping cart. Also the right click protection is a bonus.

Now for my problem. I am in Australia, and you are unable to change the currency on the shopping cart, and the products would take too long and cost to much to post to Australia. I cannot ask a client to pay in $US anyway, its rude.

Soooooooooooo, what I need to know is if the smugmug shopping cart can be disabled and your own shopping cart be used instead. The orders of course would come to me to use the lab of my choice, instead of smugmug. And no, a price list instead of a shopping cart will not do.

If this is possible, does anyone know of a tutorial that this can be acheived. And if it cant be acheived, have you any suggestions on how I can get what I want without paying someone an arm and a leg for it.

Thanks peoples

I doubt you'd be able to do that Andy. Unfortunately, turn off the shopping cart is possible but linking your own I very very much doubt. :) If you want to just turn it off, then you can go into the gallery options and turn off it being "saleable".

You can disable sales for each gallery. That's easy. You can also use Google Checkout for each item in a gallery. Many SmugMugers use that for sales of service, too. Here is an example of selling a service via Google Checkout (http://www.muenchworkshops.com/gallery/3200186). Scroll down and you will see the Google Checkout.

Note that the above example is a SmugMug gallery in Journal style. In lieu of a service you can sell a photo. Now, you have to determine if Google allows different currencies, or if there is a Google-Australia with $A capability, or a comparable service that meets your needs.

The Journal style works best with this, as would Critique, as the "caption" size is by default quite large. Other SmugMug styles have photo captions that are, by default, smaller (though you can change that in CSS).

Then, you need to print and ship. You could order from SmugMug and ship it to yourself and get the SmugMug print guarantee. But, it may be better to get a local service to reduce costs. That is something you need to figure out.

Hope this helps.

Thanks heaps for getting back with some answers Erik and RogersDA. I think what you are saying RogersDA will be way too difficult for me to work out unfortunately, and I would like to keep the layout as simple as possible.
Thanks for your help guys :-)

I have just had a phone call from someone who is willing to build a website for me, and is working on it now, so guessing smugmug was just not for me, woo hoo.

Hey Andy,

Sorry for the late reply. Sorry also that SmugMug was not able to give you a direct answer or meet your needs. We actually don't mind people doing their own fulfillment especially international photogs because we don't have great localization. (We just don't have a very slick way for you to do it)

We do have a lot of people using PayPal and Google Checkout on their SmugMug sites. http://www.moonriverphotography.com/gallery/830860

Essentially you need to turn OFF printing for a specific gallery and then embed your PayPal or Google Checkout html.

Andy, it's actually pretty easy... and either Erik or I (or maybe even Markham or one of the cool SmugMug support people), could give you a hand with the Google Checkout/PayPal option.
