From what I could understand reading everything about the two courses, I think it depends on what you are ready to learn.

The Basic course seems to be an in-depth lesson on how to get a proper exposure from your digital or film camera. How to read and set up your scene so you get a nice crisp exposure.

The Digital course looks like it goes more into how to use your computer as the darkroom. It might go into a brief intro on how to get correct exposure but it really doesn't give info on that. It just says that they assume those taking the course have little to no knowledge of digital camera (paraphrasing this), so I'm not sure.

If you want to learn how to take better to amazing pictures and you have no clue on how to go about it value wise with your camera, I say go with the basic. If you already have a good understanding of how to get proper exposure and want to know how to control darkroom processing from your camera to your computer then I'd go for the digital course. BUT I'd also contact the school straight from the site to be 100% sure that the digital course covers exposure processing.

Hope this helps.

Seeing as you are a beginner, the Basic Photography Course is what you're looking for. The Digital Photography Course does cover some aspects of how to use the camera but it mainly deals with the Digital Darkroom.
