I know this is a wide question, but I just ask for oppinion. I am thinking of buying a SLR camera, ans I m thinking of these two models. Can anyone tell me which one is better for a better amateour in the world of digital SLRs.
Thank you very much.

I am a Canon owner, so I'm biased, but here's my opinion anyway....
The D70 is a better camera than the 300D (DRebel) in many ways, but the newer RebelXT (350D) is probably better than the D70. I understand Nikon has some new cameras coming out shortly, so I can't comment there. IMO, the Canon 20D is the best bang for the buck out there at this time. They can be found for under $1500, just slightly more than the models that you're considering. Don't rely on one review that compares them...instead, read several and pay attention to what then normally shoot so you can filter out biases.
In short, either Nikon or Canon entries are good choices provided you build a nice set of lenses to accompany them. Either will give you years of service and the tools necessary to produce quality pictures.
If I were buying a camera in the sub $1500 range, it would be the Canon 20D.

I more or less agree with Carl (which is rare ;) ). I'd say the D70 is better than the 300d, and the D70s is still better than the 300dXT - but if you can afford it, the 20d is an excellent option. But the difference between the Canon Rebels and the D70's are not huge... you'll want to try both out before buying, as they feel different in your hand.

True enough... though I would imagine that as soon as one says "XT" they'll know which camera to which one is referring.
