Meet "Cookie"

Cookie is a 12 week old pure bred Beagle. I just brought her to the vet for a checkup. She got her 10 week shots.

Cookie is the runt of the liter. The breeders were not able to sell her. We lost my Harley after 15 years. Mischief our other dog is 9 and has never been alone. I'd come home for lunch and Mischief would sometimes be crying. A few times we heard her cry as we left the house.

Well it was getting kind of lonely around the house and too quite. So we decided we'd get another pup. We drove 4 hours to Lubbock to meet my daughter who came down from Colorado Springs. The trip was worth it. And there is not much quiet around the house now. This little gal has a mind of her own. But she is loving.

I was real excited over getting this dog. A few minutes ago my son called. As I got up I counter eight (8) puddles. My excitement is waning. I put her outside then got the lysol and a mop. Two more puddles in the sun room.

Question: Does any know if beagles ever dry out?

Runts are just as good if not better than the rest. :0)

We had 2 purebreed shelties, the one was a runt, and boy they were smart. :0)

Congrats on the new baby!

You need to get a routine set up, and buy a crate for the pup.. it does get easier!

They do eventually house train, but I wouldn't look for her to start being potty trained for awhile yet, but you absolutely must be consistant with her. If you can, crate her when you can't be home with her. Crate training is easier at first.

Beagles are wonderful dogs- but I will never own another one. NEVER. Ours was a tireless digger, and a total door dasher. It resulted in the dog getting hit after digging out one time. He also was horrible about barking non-stop if so much as a gnat farted 10 blocks away.

I loved ours...... I miss him.... but I'm glad I don't have a beagle anymore

Dog training school is a really good idea. Its nice to have a dog stop running away and chase something by just saying "come". :0) Instead of running after it and shouting stop, hehe. I cant even imagine trying to potty train. To bad you cant breed them sothey automatically know, hehe.

She CAN'T CLIMB THE GATE! Hooray.

This pup has personality. But I am beginning to think the crate idea is good. But when she's in it and I leave the house she barks and howls for about 30 minutes.

My wife has put puppy pads everywhere. It's not working. In fact I think it is confusing the dog more than anything else. So only one will be left on the floor.

So far no digging. Lots of gnawing on things like wood, brooms, shoes, etc. With the exception of the broom she sticks to her toys and one old shoe. So no complaint there.

Last night she was getting rambuncious around 10:30. So my wife took the carrier into the bed room, opened the door and told Cookie to go night. She did.

This pup is very loving. So anyway I want to be firm but I sure don't want to break her spirit. It's a rough combination but it'll work out fine.

Good luck getting a beagle to stop and come to you when it gets away  Their ears go off when the nose goes on. Believe me.

Yep, already have experienced that. What is strange about that is she stayed about 20 feet from me. I'd get 5 feet closer and she'd move 5 feet father away. I guess she was playing with me. I get pretty cautious about that since we live 3 blocks from the HS to the east and 3 blooks from the Jr HS to the north west. The kids like to play while they're driving - if that's what they call it nowadays.

Curious though, the Jr. HS has less students and staff than the Sr HS, but has more parking and more cars. I see kids, yep kids, driving everything from a wreck to Suburbans and F150's. Most of the cars are late models. Wish I could afford a new truck.
