Lenses

I was just wondering if the Canon Digital Rebel is compatible with other name brand lenses like Sigma or Tamron, or am I strictly limited to the lenses manufactured by the company?

Yes third party lenses will work on the Rebel, Most third party lens makers make their lense in a number of mount versions. I am using a Tamron lens on my Rebel. The tamron 28-75 F2.8 DI

You might want to read what others have to say about any lens you are considering. Just Google the name of the lens followed by review and you'll get a ton of info to sift through.

ive used the Quartaray 70-300mm lens with my Canon Digital Rebel and Canon Rebel 2000 and have had no problems with it

If you're gonna buy a 3rd party lens, ask the store if you can bring in your camera and try it before you buy.

Put it on your camera and see what the view looks like. Zoom in and out, and be sure to check the edges and corners for light fall-off, softness and distortion.

Also check to make sure the zoom and focus rings operate smoothly and stay where you put them. Make sure the lens feels solid, no "wobbly joints" or such.

Some (not all) 3rd party lensmakers have less than perfect quality control, so be sure you check out the lens you want, and buy the one you try. Don't try the floor sample and then buy one in a box.

I use Sigma, Quantaray and Tamron on my Rebel. I just picked up a Tamron 70-300mm F/4-5.6 LD with 1:2 Macro. I'm in love ;-)
