llrecoill May 20th, 2005, 09:23 PM Hi everyone,
I am totally new to "real" photography. Never had an SLR just point and shoot 35.
Ill get to the point quickly.
as a beginner this seems to be the best bang for the buck see link below.
I have read up on this camera have felt it have played with it etc. only thing i dont like about it is the shutter speed is only at 2000 max. but maybe thats all i need right now.
please give me your opinions I would really appreciate the input.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=43493&item=7515990205&rd=1my only issue is that its a refurb and im not sure if i want that. the reason its a refurb I dont know. but i do like that camera just cant find a good enough deal .
thank you for the link.
Faste10851 May 22nd, 2005, 06:19 AM Since you are new to photography get something within your budget (cause they can be really expensive, my canon elan 7ne cost 600). When you get the camera and it dont matter what kind, Im a little partial to canon, I would suggest learning about apeture and shutter speed and exposure control. Try using the camera on straight manual mode when you feel comfortable with all the maual settings and you will soon get a sence of having more control with your pictures.
kixphotography May 22nd, 2005, 08:18 AM I have both of those cameras. The Maxxum 70 is junk imho. I love the 5. You can get them brand new at www.bhphoto.com probably for cheaper and from a more reputable company. These are even on sale at www.wolfcamera.com or www.inkleys.com quite a bit with all the lenses and all.

Also was thinking of saving up and maybe getting the maxxum 7 or do you think that is too much camera for a beginner?
ty for your input.

kixphotography May 23rd, 2005, 04:47 AM refurbished isn't a bad thing. refurbished from ebay, to me is something to be cautious of.
The Maxxum 7 is a great camera. If you can get that, do. There's no such thing as too much camera for a beginner....it just gives you more room to grow. I regret not buying the Maxxum 7 when i had the chance.

what if its factory refurb? would you consider it then?
drlynn May 24th, 2005, 08:04 AM It would depend on who was selling it, and what terms they were offering.
If it was a factory refurb from a reliable dealer, and I got a warranty, then I'd take it.
If it was from an eBay company, I'd want to do some research first. I'd want to know if they had an actual business, or were just running an eBay shop out of a spare bedroom, how many complaints they'd had and how the complaints were handled, etc.
kixphotography May 25th, 2005, 09:52 AM Just go with www.bhphotovideo.com or www.keh.com, get a used camera from there, you can't go wrong!

The Maxxum 5 is my first SLR and I love it. It's light, small and at my level it does everything I need and it has never failed me.
I buy all my camera stuff from www.bhphoto.com including a used camera body. I have also returned some stuff to them and have never had any problem...

Thanks for everyones input.
for my needs I believe the Canon T2 is going to do quite well.
Thanks again for eveyones input.
drlynn May 28th, 2005, 03:57 PM Woohoo! Another Canon shooter! I think you'll like the T2.
fotobubba May 29th, 2005, 02:41 AM Don't do it. Don't fall to the DARK side... hahaha
keh.com has a couple really good deals. the best is the Minolta 700si for $139.95. Its used, but an amazing camera, vastly superior to the t2. Also they have the 800si, a better model for $225 & $229. Minolta has a much better metering setup and you'd be much happer growing into those cameras.

Soooo I am leary of a used piece of equipment. Although after downloading the instruction manual and looking at the reviews I like what i see.
But how old is the 800si? Or better yet if I purchase it whats the oldest it could be. That is what im a little leary about. Could have a camera that is 6 years old? Or 2 years old. Being really new to this (hobby) and yes for now it would be a hobby. I dont want to get burned. Im sure all of you can understand that. I think this camera has a wealth of features and like you said i could grow into. just a little skittish.
Thanks in advance.
Opinions Please!
fotobubba May 31st, 2005, 04:27 AM There is nothing wrong with a used camera from KEH. they are the biggest used dealer in USA. Find out what kind of warranty they have to purchase. I have bought a ton from them. The 800si is 4 to 7 years old and still better than beginnig to ameture camera you can get in that price range.
