Dolphinraver May 26th, 2005, 01:17 PM Great first try.
danny May 26th, 2005, 01:32 PM Excellent photo Frog. You can't go wrong with that lens. As an airplane nut myself I can really appreciate what it takes to get that kind of panning shot. Keep up the good work.
Frogsplash77 May 26th, 2005, 03:47 PM Thanks all for the kind words! Of corse since I picked up this lens, We've had this stinkin' lousy low pressure system stuck above us for days! ( I live in Upstate New York) I can't wait to try it in good weather and see what results I can coax out of it. Danny, what do you use to keep your arms from falling off using this monster? ( There are plenty other lenses that weigh more, I realize) I didn't realize how much more "real life" weighs more than looking at a numbers on a piece of paper.) I heard that a battery grip helps with the balance? Thanks again everyone, and I hope to have more to share in the future. Now if I could only get that sun to come out.......

danny May 26th, 2005, 04:34 PM Danny, what do you use to keep your arms from falling off using this monster?-Jay
Frequent breaks! Seriously, sometimes a monopod, but that's hard when shooting airplanes. But my Bogen monopod attached to the lens and collapsed all the way can serve as a handy grip and counterbalance.
Brad V May 27th, 2005, 02:26 AM Very cool shot. You did an excellent job panning the plane. I am envious.
White Sand May 27th, 2005, 02:54 AM Great photo, Jay. I'm still working on the "blur" thing --- without much success. We have a 3-day holiday weekend this weekend, so I'm going to burn up some film trying to learn this technique, among other things.
Thank you Sir!
Tim, does this mean we ALL have to call you "sir"? ('cuz I'm old enough to be your . . . older sister!) hehehehehe
callady10 May 27th, 2005, 05:37 AM After selling my motorcycle
  Poor motorcycle.
This picture is great, you would have a field day over here, Stewart Airforce base is right down the road and those big C5's are a sight to see.

Yeah, I'll admit, Im going to miss the bike this summer. Unfortunatly, I had to choose, and I went with giving my Fiance ( how do you spell that? ) The left over money (after buying the lens) towards our Vegas trip and the Carribian Cruise/Honeymoon.... I got my 1st peice of "L-Galss" and am in love with it. I have to admit, That on the panning shots its more the lens than me, Its got that IS button, and by darn it works!!!! We had a C-5 from you guys (Stewart) do a low fly by.... The sight of those things is impressive, But the sound!!!!!!!!!!!!! The sound is unforgettable, and I'm dreaming of hearing those General Electric TF39-GE-1C engines spool up and GO!!!! ( dont worry I had to look up the engine model  what a dork I am... )

They look like they could fall out of the sky at any moment. like they are just floating they are so big!
Where are you located? Close to Newburgh NY?
Frogsplash77 May 27th, 2005, 02:34 PM I'm Just up the road ( I87) In Albany. You are right!! Sometimes you find yourself holding your breath watching those monsters take off.... It's not every day we get to see a Jumbo thats 50ft short of a football field! You guys are lucky!!!! Altho we are just about 15 minutes by plane, Ive only seen 3 C-5's in 8 years!! Lucky for me I've always got the camera in 20 seconds reach only problem with these photos, you dont get any impression of the size!!!
-Jay
