One From A Shoot Last Week

and an example of some of my work. Shannon is a dream to photograph. In this image I used seven lights, three on her hair, three on her face and one on the background. Bronica GS 1 with a 150 mm lens, Kodak Portra 160 NC film. F 8 on fill light and camera aperture, main F 11, hair lights F 11, background light gelled at F 16.

Is it me or is it ever so slightly out of focus?

I would guess a softning filter... she photographs really well, though Benji... What were the shots for?

It is not 'out of focus', but 'soft focus.' I used a filter called a soft focus filter. I use it on virtually every female I photograph to soften the image. I have discovered that women, for some strange reason, don't want every pore, blemish or stray hair to show up in a photograph, so a soft focus filter blends the image and gives it a dreamy look.

Usually once or twice a year, I try and get a gal or guy in and just "experiment" on them with new poses, lighting, props or whatever. That way I am not experimenting on customers and they get all they pay for.

I was assusming she was some sort of test subject... especially with the distinct lighting you mentioned you had... We always love to see more here, especially from someone as experienced as yourself. :) I'm looking forward to learning from you.
